Hey guys, with the training component of this simulator taking such a heavy focus, I'd love to hear thoughts on what training aircraft everyone is looking forward to the most.
To fill in those who are not aware, Fighter Ops is taking a very unique approach to the simulation in that we intend to model not only combat aircraft, but our first priority is to a realistic representation of what it takes to become a combat pilot. Recruits will start at "Fighter Ops UPT School" (the equivilant of the USAF Undergraduate Pilot Training" School) We are fortunate to have USAF instructors and former students who have enabled us to build a training program modelled very closely on the real deal. FO UPT will consist of ground school and flying components, where you will be introduced to the T-6 Texan II. You will learn the basics of piloting an aircraft, correct take-off, landing, pattern, formation and navigation procedures including cross country navigation, and instrument flying "under the hood". Successful graduates will then progress to IFF (Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals) where you will get to experience the T-38, here you will get your first taste of tactical flying in one of 4 specialist tracks, again based on real USAF curriculum depending on what type of combat aircraft you would like to fly. You will again hone your formation flying skills, as well as get a taste of air to air and air to ground tactical flying proportionate to the role of the combat aircraft track you have chosen. The venerable T37 "tweet" will also be included as a flyable option, now being phased out by the T-6, this aircraft is a sentimental favourite among many pilots, and will be presented in Fighter Ops as a bonus aircraft.

Tough one, they all sound like fun components, but the thrill of speed should make the T-38 really fun.

What versions of the Talon will be modeled? The T-38A, T-38C, AT-38B, or all of the above?

the T-38 has always been one of my favourite looking planes.
however having had many chats with a fellow squad mate who has flown the Tweet about his adventures in it i am also very much looking forward to this one! this sounds absolutely amazing either way!

At last someone is gonna teach me how to fly!!!!!
I want them all!!! BTW, I remember a flight simulator sometime ago called "Blue Angels" by Accoladde. It was cool because in the training you had the opportunity to practice avery manouver inside a simulator inside the "simulator". So, it was like if you had only one life and tryed not to get killed when going into the real show. I would like to have this in the training, I mean, it would be good to have a simulator inside FO to practice everything before getting in the "real world". This simulator could have less quality graphics, cockpit and stuff to "tell" us : "this is not the real thing". Just my 2 cents! BESTS! |

I vote the T38, I'm very much looking forward to flying it as well as realistic ramping up and shutting down. One question, can mission end be once the aircraft is parked, shut down with canopy open. And mission start be canopy open everything shut down. I'm not into this start at the runway engines already going approach. Max realism for max immersion.

How will the training happen? Will there be comprehensive training missions to practice offline, or will there be a kind of online school?
As for the online school, what I have in mind is what was created in the French community: the Ecole de Chasse (Fighter School), in which the more experienced virtual pilots are teachers for less experienced pilots. Pilots can graduate through different levels, mastering more and more difficult things. For example, Level1 lessons deal with landing, navigation, communications and formation flight, Level2 bring basic armament use (Free fall bombs, gun, and Sidewinders) and Level3 lessons are for full employment of armament. Next levels enable to learn how to lead wider and wider combat formations. ps: sry pressed edit instead of quote....Dirk Last edited by Pacman; 04-17-2005 at 13:10. |

Okay, I should search more, but I did not understand clearly how it should happen by the first things I read...

T-37 would be very cool. Especially because a variant was used as a Ground Attack platform, and I like to do a little gardening from time to time. The speed factor is fun, but I feel that you should learn how to fly and get a grip on some of the other concepts. That is afterall, what 'training' is all about. Learning how to manuver, set up attack runs, meet up at an IP prior to making a run, utilizing terrain etc.. It's all much safer at slower speeds. Of course once you get feathers on, then you can add speed into the mix. Just my thoughts.

I voted for the T-6 as I would like to spend a lot of getting familiar with the plane and procedures in preperation for a UPT slot (hopefully). I think a ground school would be awesome for those who would like to also have some study material.
