Default HAOLE and HP

Am I allowed to "vent" for just a moment in my forum?

My wife and I recently purchased a HP computer system and almost instantly noticed that the monitor appeared to be having a problem. Anywhere that is normally white would turn yellowish brown.
I figured NO PROBLEM, HP will take care of it! WRONG!!
HERE IS MY WARNING TO YOU!!!!

We spent hours (no kidding) on the phone running tests with reps from HP and they finally sent out a replacement monitor. This did NOT fix the problem. They consider the monitor and tower as two seperate items of interest so we spent hours trying to come up with a solution. They ran full system recoveries, etc (for which we had to spens time saving everything to discs) of which none of their solutions worked.
Finally they said that we could send it in for the repair center to look at. They thought it may be the video card which is on the mother board. My wife mailed it off with a note saying "recommended by tech rep to replace video card".
It came back, still broken with a replaced HARD drive and the video card untouched????
I was pissed and called HP and a "manager" finally called me back and said that we need to send it back AGAIN!
I asked if he could just replace the computer and he said...now get this...
HPs policy is that you must attempt having it repaired THREE times before they will consider that option!
I will NEVER own another HP product and I HIGHLY recommend that none of you get in to this situation either. Buy something else.
Customer service is a key for any business and I have received very POOR customer service from this company and just dont want any of you to experience my troubles!!

Thanks for letting me vent...now back to Viper questions!!!

Your best bet Haole is to have one built at your local computer shop so that when something is broke you wont have to send it in you can throw it at the tech guy in real time.

I have been a computer tech for over 15yrs and the best thing i could suggest is never buy a premade system. DELL, HP/COMPAQ, GATEWAY, They are built fast and not to higher standards that Good computer resellers.

I feel your pain i worked for Compusa for almost 2 years i left cause i couldnt stand how i felt after selling a computer to someone and selling them on the replacement plan because it is a joke. To anyone looking to get a new system pllease check your local computer builder you can get it for about half the price that you would pay if you go to a big Outlet.

AGREED! I just wanted something nice and simple for the wife to do our bills, etc on. Thought I was doing the right thing. My Gateway held up pretty good, but I agree that the customer service there wasnt the best either. Better than HP though. We use Dell at work and so far they have been GREAT!
Thanks again for listening to the "venting"!
Just give me some coordinates...I have the JDAMs! Just kidding!

Yeah, Moses is correct, never buy a brand-name system. The best bet is to go out and price the best components yourself, you'll get the same system with higher quality components, sometimes as little as half what the "brand-name" will charge you. If you are not computer-lit, take the parts to someone you know who is, get them to show you how to put them all together and install, it's not all that hard to do. Second choice is to find a small store that does this, but be carefull as there are a lot of shonksters around as well, but if you find a good one, based on recommendations etc, you will still save a fortune and get a much better system.

I had trouble with a Dell system, not only did they not deliver what we asked for, they also refused to do anything about getting us what we wanted, and were extremely insulting to boot. The machine itself was always unstable as hell, this could have been because I added some RAM and a CDRW to it - I believe Dell and some of the other name-brand guys set up their PCs so they will only work properly with proprietary hardware, so you can't upgrade the system without going through them.

Needless to say I'm not doing business with them or anyone like them in the future.

Hi Haole, your fault may have been with your monitors cable that plugs into your video card. I have a similar problem with mine but I'm going to rewire it later on. If the cables have a break in one of the primary colours eg blue then the screen may have a yellow tint. Try wriggling the cable just slightly, start from the video card and move up to the monitor while its going. Or try a different cable. As for HP or Dell, I never touch either of them as some of them have non-standard motherboards that cant be upgraded. I never use on board graphics chips either as I find that the graphics is never as good as that from a good card.

I guess it is all in relative as to where you live and what repair facillity you are dealing with.

Never owned an HP and never will. I got a bad taste from HP long ago when they made their computers to work only with HP products. Greedy bastards can do without my money... forever!

As for Dell.... I bought my wife a Dell to use for normal stuff as Haole mentioned. It works great. I also bought a laptop from them for business travel and it works like a champ too. Except the very FIRST thing I did when it came in was reformatted the HD with my own - NON-DELL - copy of Windows XP Pro.

I love the Dell's and they work great for what I use them for.

However, as mentioned, for my gaming and high performance machines, I research and buy them peice by peice. It is the only way to go for this type of us.

But for normal use (internet, email, bills, and such) a pre-fab factory system is fine. Just not HP's.

Hi Haole, I feel for ya for sure, I used to work for HP in their Pavillion dept here in thier Edmonton call center, If you had a pavillion you may have been talking to one of us. I left Hp because of thier poor customer service standards and limited scope of support, i.e out of warranty etc, as with the previous posts, the pre packaged units do leave a lot to be desired. not enough time spent testing the units. im just glad the vipers aren't made by HP. By the way thank you for taking time to be of help to us vitual piots, love falcon.
