I don't know why you posted this in the test area. Anyway, I honestly do not know. The Russian Federation is caught up in financial delemas. The R&D for there advanced fighter program is stagnant at this time due to lack of funding. Although, the Russians have found ways to continue there work with little or no money in the past.

Economy wise, Russia has been faltering since the days before the Soviet Union fell.

As far as the MiG, I know that may not come about since MiG sold out to Sukkhoi-Irkut.

If Soviet didn't collapse, MiG 1.42 WOULD HAVE become the next generation of Soviet fighter whether Su-47 existed or not (incidentally I heard that the Soviet Air Force spent so much time on MiG 1.42 that they thought Sukhoi was just complicating their jobs by rolling out Berkut) .

But then again, Soviet did collapse, and all bets are off.

As for the question if either MiG 1.42 or Su-47 will be in production, the answer is no.

IIRC, the Russians are now concentrating on LFI, which is Russian's counterpart of JSF (well more or less anyway) .

I think that there is a chance that some of these fighters will see action. They always have money for some crazy military jets, so it might happen. Especcialy when we are cutting our F22 orders by who knows how many. If any of them do, it will be the 1.42 Mig. A very capable fighter, but who knows how it all will turn out.

Thanks

The obsession with the "Soviets" amuses me. Russia may develop and produce something along the line of advanced fighter aircraft...but it is doubtful that it will transpire in our lifetimes under the "Soviets" own control due to their financial situation. Don't get me wrong...Russia is one of the world's most abundantly supplied nations as far as natural resources goes...the problem is they are too stupid to reap the harvest awaiting them. I've been there...I've seen it with my own eyes.

What people need to realize is that China is THE threat. China is THE biggest threat to the world today. China has regularly in the past gotten technology from the "Soviets" and produced it. China is on the march, is growing by leaps and bounds economically, has the manpower, natural resources, and network to go well beyond present "Soviet" developments. China has the ability to invade the United States with more soldiers than we have citizens by two fold...and they would still have a billion people left over...it is time to wake up to the threat. They are a nuclear power. And so is their neighbor India. What if the two of them got together...3+ billion people...half the world. What needs to be realized is exactly what Leonid Breshnev told Jimmy Carter...the cold war is not the battle...preserving the white race is. Now that may sound racist. I'm not presenting it that way...even though that may be how Breshnev meant it. The point is he knew the "Soviet Union" AND the United States were ultimately outnumbered.

Being married to a Russian national I can attest to this as I regularly get briefed by my wife on the stupidity of the "Soviets". If they produce something it will be at the coercsion of another country...probably China. Do not expect them to do such a thing on their own.

Hey settle down bud. If you read the post he wasn't calling the russian people stupid, he was giving his opinion on the soviet system more than anything.

Being his opinion, everyone is fully within their rights to agree or disagree with it, but no need to attack him for it.

The sad thing about about Russia is the corruption thats going on steming from the Mafias influence on their society. If it weren't for that Russia would a very wealthy nation today. I see China as a very westernised Communist country, although they have a very powerful Armed Forces they do not come across to me as an Aggressor looking for trouble. If there were ever was a problem it would be in relation to Taiwan or the Spratleys. As for major threats consider Jordan and Iran as possible threats(especially considering the terrorists in Iraq are mainly ex criminals from Jordans jails who were highly trained in what they are doing now by the Jordanian government.(Feyadeen all over again:sad: ). Hopefully one day when people accept each others cultural differences and right to exist there will be more peace and less slow deliberate painful executions broadcast throughout the media.

I have been saying something like this for the last 5 years.. the avg chinese persons are fine, it's the government that is arrogant and is under the impression it's "ideal".
In my line of work, Bejing , will arbitrarily, pull ALL INTERNET traffic within
their boarders and sift thru looking for sedition...etc... amd we all knows what
happens if they find any....
...and don't get me started about US companies (and others) putting their manufacturing base in china....

Spyder-F16 01-30-2005 04:09

China may not seem like they're itchin for a fight now... but they are. They've been making their own versions of russian equipment, equipment that has even the Russian Origionals that they used the design from outmatched. The Chineese J-11 Flankers will be much more powerful than the SU-27 once the Chineese version of the R-77 is fully operational.

Even though they may not launch an attack directly, if we do try to take Kim Jong Ill though in Korea, the Chineese will likely come to the DPRK's aid. It's almost turning out to resemble the Korea campaign in Falcon 4... except worse.

Although the Chineese are using CounterStrike for army training, they're still a very surreal threat. Sure, the United States has one of the best trained and equipped militaries, but the problem here is not training and technology/weapons, the problem here is numbers. As said, China has more people in their own military than the US even has total. Meanwhile the US only has a volunteer force of under 1 million (If even lucky to have that).
If any skirmish with China ensues, I'd probably say that within a bit, the only thing left would be Twinkies and Roaches.
