Yes, I remember seeing that unfold live, was a superb effort.
PS I am pretty sure from memory the callsign of that jet was Buckshotxx
i also believe he was a brand new pilot and this might have been one of his very first flights since getting to Squadron.
Awesome effort and i believe the aircraft was back on the ramp in no time.
Just because it was an "OLD" busted down "relic" that couldn't get its "gear" up...uh I mean down, anymore...

Cool... for change I see we're bagging F-111's as Busted Old Relic's and not Tomcats... I approve of this shift! ;) Still, the Pig IS an incredible platform; let face it, with the digital upgrades and etc the jet got in the 1990's, was on par with the F-15E. The structure just started getting old (although not as old as the politicians and ppl in favour of early withdrawl wanted us all to think)... The structures on the Hornet Fleet are basically JUST as flogged!
