well, I do have hard to belive that its the most advanced fighter, maybe the most advanced in the attack role, but it canīt compete with the multirole fighters like the Gripen, F-22, EF and so on.

Well of course the funny part is the A-10 is not a fighter jet first of all, and it is rather low tech compared to the rest of the USAF inventory. Given that though, it's still one bad-ass aircraft!

He actually said "one" of the most technically advanced aircraft. I guess that is technically correct. :)

The A10 is not a Fighter Jet. While it carries Sidewinders they are for defense purpose. Its role is Close Air Support/Ground Attack. It can loiter over thebattlefield flying at much lower speeds and provide observations. It can deploy a wide variety of munitions including Mavericks for use against armor.
It is well armored itself with the pilot sitting in a titanium(?) tub. But it is essentialy a plane built around a 30mm gattling gun. Generally used for attacks against armor it was used in at least one situation to take out a chopper. The Iraqi named it Silent Thunder. It is being upgraded to the A10-Cwhich will give it two MFD and integrating it into the electronic battelfield.
