Good afternoon Fighter Ops

Just dropping by for a quick announcement today...

Yesterday, an exclusive Development Diary was launched exclusively with GameSpot (view it here http://uk.gamespot.com/xbox360/sim/il2birdsofprey/video/6216066/il-2-sturmovik-birds-of-prey-behind-the-scenes) and tomorrow the official IL2 website will be updated with more dev diaries (video and text), new information (including images) on 11 new planes and a host of news updates.

Of course I do :)

I act as a representative of 505 Games to speak to people such as yourselves to find out your thoughts on the release and feedback to the team so that everyone, especially the community, is happy :)

Here's my feedback;

I am really loving the graphics of the new IL2... so much that I'm practically drooling on my keyboard. However right now, the flightsim community is desperate for a proper, up-to-date (regardless of the theater or time frame the game is representing) flight simulator that can run on PCs. There are already way too many console arcade games out there. I appreciate your effort, but a console will never be able to simulate flight at the same level a PC would be capable of.

Thanks for taking my feedback into consideration.

Hi Funky

Thanks for your feedback. It has been passed on to 505 Games so I will let you know their response :)

Xbox arcade games are quite different from the simulation world we love. We need proper physics, proper controls (aka cougar/ trackIR) and less Hollywood. my 2cents.

RosieC,

These message board members can be a bit of a tough crowd because it consists of a lot of hardcore simmers. Many of them are looking for an ultra-realistic simulation experience. While part of me would love to see that too, I also know that it would be impractical to release a hardcore sim on the consoles. I think you guys have done a great job at balancing the realism and the accessability to everyday gamers. I've been enjoying the demo since it came out on the PSN. It is obvious that a lot of hard work went into making the game and I wish you guys the best of luck. I am looking forward to playing it in September.

One last thought: I'm sure this has been expressed by others as well, but I would love to see a PC version.

Hi Tineras

Thank you for your support and I am glad you have enjoyed the demo - all feedback is greatly appreciated :)

You are correct, you are not the first to ask about a PC release!

The official line from 505 Games on this matter is the following: "At the current time we are concentrating on are bringing IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey to a new console audience".

If you or any other forum members do decide to try out the full game on console it would be great to hear your thoughts, we are sure you won't be disapppointed...

You misunderstand us Rosie. The people here are 98% interested only for real (study) flightsimulator. Like Falcon 4 or kindly like DCS Black Shark.
This product from you looks like an ego-shooter pushed up in a sky-arena. Or like HAWX fallen back into a WWII scenario.

What we here need is a S I M U L A T O R. The graphic shoold be as best as possible, but it's not that essential. This kind of Sim we need also should be packed in a BIG box with a (printed) detailed and thick manual, keyboard-cards, geographical documents and other stuff.

Take a look at a retail box of Falcon 4 from 1998 and you know what I mean.

Do not lose your manpower to port it on PC - Me and lot more don't want this flight-shooter. The kiddies who want to play this stuff should go in a market and buy the konsole to play it.

I think it's great that you release flight games on consoles. It raises interest in aviation and people will eventually end up here, in the world of flight simulators :wink2: go Il-2!

You are certainly not the spokesperson for "98%" of these members. I'm sure there are plenty of console owners on these boards that enjoy a variety of games. And this is definitely not a "kiddie" game. I encourage you to go and watch the 'webcast demo' on their website (http://www.il2game.com/) or here on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hme6rpcE16A). At the very least you can give them credit for making the game scalable and accessible to casual players and still fun for "hardcore simmers" (aka simulation mode).

As the previous commenter said, we should be thankful that games like IL2 are making the sim market more attractive to the everyday gamer. That will create a larger sim audience which will justify the expense for developers to make more hardcore sims for people like me and YOU. This is a console game. If you can take it for what it is, you might even get some enjoyment out of it.

I do not write about IL2 Series in general. I just wrote about this kind of mass-product. It's just a shooter, and nothing more. A real breathtaking graphic... but... Not more than just fly an fight. Only kiddies need this kind of stuff.

And THIS forum I only know as a forum with "hardcore-sim" members. And as far as I know FO is going to be a "hardcore-sim"...isn't it!?

While it's true that the overriding passion for most of the members here is high fidelity simulation, I do not see anything wrong with console games being promoted or discussed.

These types of console games are a soft entry for newcomers to the genre, some of those will move on to more realistic simulation and PC simulation which helps us all.

On top of that while many of us spend most of our time flying high fidelity simulations, the love of flight can still transend into console games and we can still enjoy a fun little game, or to share a flight sim game with our young children, etc, there are many reasons why a console game of this nature should be embraced by our community.

see I didn't mean to imply that there is anything wrong with the new IL2... More power to the developers I'm just pointing at the huge gap in our segment that is desperate to get filled. There is some good potential but its surprising to see developers not jumping on it.
