This is just frakkin awesome!
Pretty advanced...hope the VTANG is in the running for a squadron of those..:thumb:
Awesome, yes... but kinda boring as well :p the "good ol' times" with dogfight seems to be over.
There is no doubt about F-35s abilities to become the king of the sky, but Im somewhat looking foreward to the fifth gen from Russia and China as well. I dont think dominating the skies will be as easy as in the demonstration in the future, with more fifth gen fighters comming out of hiding.

Yes Emo. That's why we need more F-22 Raptors!

I want to see a F-22 vs F-35 in not only dogfight, but EWS tasks managements, throw at them a lot of SAMs, AAA, Radar jamming threats,FAC, and CAS. Who would think would live? or have the best accuracy when it come to bombs on target on time.

If I ever saw this in a game, I'd say it was hopeless arcade with no aspirations for a sim.
I am reading words such as "boring" and "arcadish" here? Hello?!
Well, if it were up to me, that piece of equipment would be on my shopping list!
I think that system could be integrated on numerous other systems, and has enormous potential.

what a deadly advanced avionics and weapon it has lol
Acecombat has just turned into a sim from an arcade... haha..

Pilot Stamina and weapon loadouts will dictate the future of air combat. Not technology.

Lance, no one is genuinely questioning its usability or general awesomeness. It just looks like a computer game, doesn't it? ;)

I've been hearing a lot of F/A-22 vs F35 chat recently, even at work and I think its worth keeping in mind that they are different aircraft designed for very different roles. For my money the F/A-22 would destroy the F35A/B/C in the dogfight arena, given ideal conditions and similar pilot ability. The sensor performance of the F35 variants may be amazing, but in terms of manoeuvrability, I've heard it described by one of the test pilots as "a stealthy buccaneer" which doesn't bode well for WVR fights. It seems that the forces equipping with this aircraft will rely on aircraft such as F/A-22 or Typhoon, or another G5 fighter for air supremacy, supplemented with stealthy attacks by F35 in an air-ground role.
Just my thoughts
That is all irrelevant if the F35 is able to exit the merge without turning, fire and destroy. WTF. That has to be heavy optimism there.
Or maybe not. I mean from what I know of electronics and software all that is theoretically possible.
Seems to me it would be better to mount a few missiles backwards though LOL!
Amazing.

Actually, that's a very good point... there HAS to be a plausible reason why that hasn't been done yet... even if only Sidewinders* ?
I would think the ability of sensors previously would have made it unrealistic and probably not a very good chance of picking up the enemy. Even with an uncaged IR missile you would be trying to fly the tone, backwards. Would not work real well when trying to jink and evade.
But with this. Holy crap. I mean it would limit the ability of any missile mounted that way, but I think you would really only need 2. It obviously can already cue a missile to fly 180 from launch, so there is no reason it isnt plausible.
This is just nuts though.
I am still waiting for the day when in-the-craft pilots are obsolete for combat aircraft.

i don't think the pilots are. lol.

Amazing.
Its been tried and it failed the reason why is the missile loses its energy flying backwards and then has to accelerate to its tgt to regain its energy. Its easier just to do a 20g 180 deg turn than to go from 500kts+ to Mach 2 backwards.

Very useful indeed, no denying that (pardon the pun). Lightens the load somewhat. But the advert assumes your adversary doesn't have a similar or better system in place. Also assumes that Megatron is really dead!
DAS - Detects all those fake targets. DAS - Makes you use up all your stores fast! DAS - See's the real targets light up your synthetic battlespace like a christmas tree! You need..... DAS!
.
Something to keep in mind...
The F-22 already has all of this capability, save for the optical display VIA the helmet. We don't call it "DAS", but it's still there.
Nonetheless, it's still pretty neat.

did you not see Firefox
Additional candy: I found this video on youtube. It shows a real F-35 simulator among other things. The guys from down under may have see this already...

awesome VID.. The Vermont ANG is in the running for the F-35 for the first to receive the jet.
Nice, i'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. I can't wait to see them flying around...
Very good video, I could have worked on those at Edwards AFB a few years back.
