View Full Version : Need help - Win XP
I installed Windows XP on a 150 GB raptor drive. I have two other HD RAID 0 for my Vista install. Now that I loaded Windows on the 150 HD thats all it loads now. I still can access my my 2 raided HD thought XP but it wont let me boot Vista. What did I do?
As far as I am concerned, Microsoft looks at your computer like "there can only be one". Installing Windows will do a hostile take-over on your boot partition, and it will not let go easily. I am running a dual-boot Windows XP / Linux setup, and the best way to do it is by installing XP first, and then let Linux set up GRUB as the OS selector at boot-up's.
By doing a quick search on Google you can find a lot of walk-through's. I don't know if this is what you are looking for, but maybe you could read it, and get a couple of hints as to how you should proceed! :)

This is what im getting.
Im on Xp right now and its showing me Vista.
But you dont get the OS selector on bootup? Is it set to show it? Or is that disabled?

It does not show it. I don't believe is disabled.
Each OS, XP and Vista will disable the bootloader of the other OS.
It takes some work to get it right.

Yep, I'm doing research on that. I've fopund a 3rd party bootloader is the way to go. I've also found a program called nLite that will allow me to make a slipstream disk with all my setting preconfigured.
It's gonna take me weeks to straighten up all my drives and get everything organized and get a dual boot going. It's a tricky thing. It used to be real easy with Win2000 and XP, but Vista has made a damned mess out of it. I went with Vista becasue I wanted to do certain things, but only grudgingly. It is a real biotch, and that's putting it mildly.
If you are a Falcon pilot, you *want* XP. SOme have got Vista working, but there are some that have had some mysterious issues and it's like there is no rhyme or reason for it. XP flies really nice with Falcon.
