This is a very frustrating issue I've had, that's been causing a LOT of inconvencience lately. I don't remember when exactly it started, but as a gamer, I download alot, alot, and alot of files to my PC. (Addons, mods, tweaks...) Every once in a while, I stumble upon a site where it's impossible to download anything, even though it's very possible for everyone else. I get the 404 error. I've tried downloading in both IE and Firefox, and I still get the page cannot be displayed error.

www.avsim.com (http://www.avsim.com/)
www.simviation.com (http://www.simviation.com/)
www.fsplanet.com (http://www.fsplanet.com/)
www.armedassault.info (http://www.armedassault.info/)

Those are some of the sites I can't download anything from. Maybe someone can look to see what they have in common.

It's now gotten to a point where I need to download a specific file, but it's impossible, because every site it's hosted on, I can't download from.
----
It's impossible to find any REAL customer service these days. My ISP live chat just had me reset my security tab within IE7, because he was sure that would would fix my problem. However, he also originally thought my problem was I didn't have a tool to unzip anything...

Cole_(Sat Jul 26 22:42:22 PDT 2008)>For quite a while now (a few months), I've lost the ability to download anything, from certain sites, that I was previously able to download from. Also, these sites work off of other internet connections, so I know it's not a problem within the website itself.
Rolando(Sun Jul 27 01:42:43 PDT 2008)>Thank you.
Rolando(Sun Jul 27 01:42:44 PDT 2008)>I am sorry for the inconvenience.

Cole_(Sat Jul 26 22:44:26 PDT 2008)>I chatted with an analyst last night who had me reset my IE7 options back to default. But that didn't do anything, since I haven't changed any IE7 options.
Cole_(Sat Jul 26 22:44:36 PDT 2008)>I also get the same problem within Firefox aswell.
Rolando(Sun Jul 27 01:44:53 PDT 2008)>Thank you.
Rolando(Sun Jul 27 01:45:05 PDT 2008)>I tried the site in my end and it is working fine.

Cole_(Sat Jul 26 22:46:31 PDT 2008)>It took me to the same site as www.simviation.com
Rolando(Sun Jul 27 01:46:39 PDT 2008)>What it says?
Rolando(Sun Jul 27 01:47:14 PDT 2008)>Is it asking for Express Member log in?
Cole_(Sat Jul 26 22:47:36 PDT 2008)>There's that option.
Cole_(Sat Jul 26 22:47:47 PDT 2008)>But it doesn't ask for it unless I click that option.
Rolando(Sun Jul 27 01:47:40 PDT 2008)>Thank you.
Rolando(Sun Jul 27 01:47:54 PDT 2008)>Thank you,.
Cole_(Sat Jul 26 22:48:02 PDT 2008)>You're welcome
Rolando(Sun Jul 27 01:48:12 PDT 2008)>We have the same page here.
Rolando(Sun Jul 27 01:48:28 PDT 2008)>Would you please try to download something so that I will know what is the error?
Cole_(Sat Jul 26 22:48:46 PDT 2008)>Sure.
Rolando(Sun Jul 27 01:49:08 PDT 2008)>We have the same page here.
Cole_(Sat Jul 26 22:49:52 PDT 2008)>I tried to download the top file labled "Delta 767-300" from the URL http://205.252.250.27/simviation/index.php?ID=60&page=1000 (http://205.252.250.27/simviation/index.php?ID=60&page=1000)

Rolando(Sun Jul 27 01:53:03 PDT 2008)>Thank you for patiently waiting, Cole.
Rolando(Sun Jul 27 01:53:14 PDT 2008)>I will provide you a link on how to resolved the issue,

Rolando(Sun Jul 27 01:53:58 PDT 2008)>Is there anything else that I can assist you with?
Cole_(Sat Jul 26 22:54:12 PDT 2008)>Yes there is
Cole_(Sat Jul 26 22:55:47 PDT 2008)>I can assure you I also went to a search engine and spent quite a while trying to solve this issue. I don't think sending me to a discussion board is assisting me with solving my problem. I could have went to Google and typed in a few key words and recieved the same information you gave me.
Rolando(Sun Jul 27 01:56:03 PDT 2008)>Thank you.,
Rolando(Sun Jul 27 01:56:56 PDT 2008)>I would like to inform you that we are not the manufacturer of your Internet explorer. I think you need to call Microsoft if you think the link that I provided you is not working.
Cole_(Sat Jul 26 22:57:22 PDT 2008)>The link worked fine.
Cole_(Sat Jul 26 22:57:36 PDT 2008)>But it did not help me solve my problem.
Cole_(Sat Jul 26 22:58:38 PDT 2008)>I understand you didn't manufacture IE, but I didn't say this problem was specific to IE either. It's a problem with Firefox aswell.
Cole_(Sat Jul 26 22:59:13 PDT 2008)>Do you think YOU could give me technical support, rather than sending me to a technical support discussion board?
Rolando(Sun Jul 27 01:59:35 PDT 2008)>http://www.technologyquestions.com/technology/internet-explorer/219667-internet-explorer-cannot-display-webpage.html (http://www.technologyquestions.com/technology/internet-explorer/219667-internet-explorer-cannot-display-webpage.html)
Cole_(Sat Jul 26 23:00:27 PDT 2008)>Excellent. Another discussion board.
Rolando(Sun Jul 27 02:00:43 PDT 2008)>Cole, i ma sorry for that link,.
Rolando(Sun Jul 27 02:00:49 PDT 2008)>That is the way how can we resolve it.
Rolando(Sun Jul 27 02:01:01 PDT 2008)>We are not trained to resolved the IE or firefox issue.
Rolando(Sun Jul 27 02:01:08 PDT 2008)>I am also reading about it.

Wow I fixed my problem. The Firewall built into Windows is the problem. Completely disabled that, and it started working.

Funky

eh... could be a bug in your system that you downloaded from somewhere. Dont be so sure its your firewall - your firewall could actually be the one protecting you from something worse.

I had the same thing happen to me but with other sites... turned out it was some kind of tojan/spyware/bug that was residing in my system. A complete sweep got rid of it.

Funky

Windows Firewall has caused me issues in the past as well. I always turn it off and disable it, then I use a real firewall program (Sygate).
