Looks like the line in the sand has finally been drawn on both sides of the fence. ATI is encorporating Havok FX engine physics while nVidia is encorporating PhysX into GPGPU at a driver level. Can these 2 physics engines hardware detect what you're using and are they able to both be encorporated in such a way that the game detects ATI and uses havok fx and nVidia and uses PhysX? Are the SDKs cost effective enough to humor this type of parallel development in a game engine? Is there enough instaleld userbase between the 2 to support it? Back when Agea was flogging thier own hardware card it made no sense, but now that it's being implemented via GPGPU on a driver level I think it might be time for hardware accelerated physics to have a bit more credibility now. Just pondering the current situation and how it might effect games in the near future.

On a seperate thought, shouldn't there be a way to come up with a more generic GPGPU physics engine that works with both major brands?
