Is it worth my money if i have a 8800 GTX to sell that, and get me a GX2?-(they say it 30% faster than the Ultra.

Ask yourself whether you want to play games that need anything better than a 8800GTX. Are you a Crysis fan perhaps? ;)

We're right before rerlease of the next nVidia "world beater". I would wait a bit. I am getting ready to build a new system based on the Bloomfield CPU at the end of this year and have been keeping up witgh the latest stuff. NVidia is supposed to have a new one theis month or next month. That was the word last I checked.

Now for the disclaimner: With nVidia release info is very hard to come by. Most of what we get is non-offical rumor based released info, with some of it based on leaks of info. You can never say anything definitely about release dates with nVidia becasue they don;t officially release that info, but I have been around a bunch of forums with guys who mess with this stuff, and that's what posted above is the word that is buzzing around. We are due for a new high end GPU. The 8800 series is getting quite dated, so hang onto what you got. You will *KNOW* when it comes out, just like you did when the 8800 series came out.

FSX

I thought FSX was more demanding on the CPU than GPU?

Also, AFAIR FSX doesn't use more than one GPU, so anything SLI is a waste of money.

I would say keep with the 8800 for now. Does SLI work with FSX correctly because of it's multi-monitor rendering hacks? I'd dig around to make sure SLI even works in FSX first, because a GX2 uses SLI to bridge the 2 GPUs on the same card internally. FSX does some pretty unique things to enable multi-monitor support. Doing things that aren't standard DirectX can break functions like SLI in many games. It's one of the worries I have for FO, that no doubt they'll have to address sometime in the future.

There it is! That's the one. Now we know. That my freinds is the next world beater, and is the grapics card that will be going in my new system.

Now Intel, ther board manufacturers, and OCZ needs to get moving and get these bloomfields, the boards for them, and the RAM out, and we'll be in buisness! :thumb:

That's intro pricing and is probably retail too. E-tail price will be lower, and it will drop drastically after all the addicts snatch them up for the first time.

It's perfect timing for me, since I have to wait on stuff. That's what I was hoping was gonna happen was to see it released early befoer the rest of the stuff was released so the price would come down. I knew it was gonna be expensive. None of this high end stuff is ever cheap.

The GTX 280 is showing a 50-90% increase in tests. I did ALOT of reading on it. It is quite a leap in performance. I knew it would be though becasue I was talking with the guys at the forums, and that was the word I was getting. I also knew we wwere well overdue for more thna a hopup.

This GPU is completely new. It's no joke.

It would be foolish not to wait for the ATI 4xxx release.... just hold off.

Im usually not a fan of telling people to wait but this is good reason, and not too much longer.

4850's are already available, at around euro 150 price point in Euroland. Scores in games all hover around those of 9800 GTX. 4870 will feature GDDR 5 (instead of GDDR3 for 4850) and will be faster than 9800 GTX for much less money. I guess two 4850s in Crossfire will be better than any single card in the market, with a very good price point (GTX280 cards cost around 540 euros where I live). I'm also looking at new cards because my 7900 GT is going t*ts up as we speak...:nono:

I've already talked to some of the guys about the ATI stuff. Not really interested. You gotta watch with Hector Ruiz at the helm now. Alot of hype, but not really much action.

Edited: I thought I better add to to this. I'm avoiding AMD and ATI right now, because I fear they may not be around much longer. They are 55 billion dollars in debt, and while there is alot of hype, they don't have the money for R&D. It takes big money for R&D to develop this stuff. Their stock is down 55.8%, and it's looking like Chapter 11 for them.

AMD was already in debt before the hostile takeover of ATI, and it was just 1 of many boneheaded moves by Hector Ruiz. The creditors, and the shareholders of that company need to take it back by force and fire his sorry arse. I'm really aggravated with that whole suitaution, because it weakens competition, and drives up prices, and it also kills off companies who were doing well like ATI. Not only has it affected ATI neagtively, it has cost AMD so much money, it is affecting what little bit of money they had to make good low cost chips as an alternative to Intel which kept Intel under conrtrol, but now watch what happens...

We have nVidia already coming out with a 700 dollar card. Prices are sky high. Don't think these companies don't have spies. They know what the other is doing and they price their stuff accordingly. The reasion that card is 700 bucks is because they know there is nothing to compete with it.

I also fear the Intel Bloomfield Extreme Chip may surpass the 1200 dollar mark because of this, and we may be looking at 600 dollar High end chips, and 3-400 dollar mainstream Nehalems by late 2008-09.

It only takes one idiot at the wheel to wreck a company, and wreck the market at the same time. Lots of people are pi$$ed at that guy because he runs his mouth and flames the users and the media who only want the best for everybody. He engages in fanboi flame tactics, and taunts other companies, has enaged in name calling and all kinds of crap. This individual really needs to be fired. He is creating havoc and really doesn't care. At the same time his company is going tits up, he has given himself a sizeable raise. He's padding his pockets while the company goes right down the toilet. It's really unbeliveable.

AMDTI and/or driver support isnt going anywhere for the life of these cards... although I upgrade more often than most.

I would still wait...

Really, it would help competition... and just be sensible to buy ATI if the card outperforms Nvidia.

They price cards this way because the GT 280 gpu-die is huge (you could fit like 7 penryns in there) and expensive and the early adopters will always pay through the nose.

Still though, all that matters is waiting for the independent benchmarks.

Wait longer? Will it be worth it? Nah. I'll go for the GTX280

I say no..almost 2x the performance.
