This CPU ROCKS People! I am loving this news, because earlier in the year I was gonna upgrade, and after hearing of this socket change and the new IMC and well as the SMT and QPI I decided I couldn't justify the cost of a system that will be obsolete in less than a year.

The more I find out about this, the more excited I get. This chip is a dang porn star! :thumb:

I can't wait to get my hands on this. World domination may be in order here. :rofl

That Bloomfield will rock, and is what I'm gonna go with. I may not go with the Extreme Chip, but I will go with one of the Bloomfields. It really depends on what the price of the Extreme Chip costs. I'm gonna go with water too. I'm really hoping they come out with the water blocks for these quickly. I'm hoping swiftech is on that right now so I don't have to buy a box CPU.

Not only are they incorporating all those features onto one die, the clocks are coming back up again. It's a whole new ball game though becasue there is no FSB anymore. There is also Triple Channel and instead of using two sticks we will be running 3 sticks. I guess 3x1GB or 3x2GB DDR 3 Kits will be the norm. I guess I'll also have to have two separate arrays for this deal one with XP and the other with Vista 64.

Those guys at EOC and XS know their stuff man. Mnay are waiting to build systems with these CPU's. They are the most interesting thing I've seen from Intel in a long time, and I've seen some amazing things. I just hope the release date is not pushed back, and ends up being sooner. The sooner the better.

Calm down dude....

I am from XS too, I just dumped my Quad and got a C2D 8500 as an interim solution.... :evils:

Dumped your quad? If it still works, build a cheap folding rig with it. :wink2:

Indeed! Put two SMP clients on that bad boy. You don't even need a graphics card. Heck, you don't even need to OC, although it would help a little. If you have a mobo laying around just stick it together with one of those PSU's that most of have sitting in the closet.

On the Nehalem's, I sure hope they are working on waterblocks. These CPU's are physically larger and I'd like to see a water block solution special made for them. I could buy a swiftech and make my own plate, but I'm not sure it would keep up with these. I doubt they are gonna run too hot, but I want as much cooling as I can get so that I'm not heat limited on my OC.

I am dyin' here people. I want that CPU sooooo bad right now. It is time, and I really need it.

Woops....too late :red: I used the Quad sale to fund my rather costly C2D 8500 purchase. Its well worth it though. Once and if I relocate to Australia, the idea is to run 24/7 @ 4500mhz (500 x 9) and above which this bad boy does with ease. For now I am on stock air and mighty pleased....

The idea here is to maximise FSB and my high performance RAM while unclocking and undervolting the CPU to protect the fragile 45nm architecture from heat until it gets watercooled. Anyhow it is already freaking fast without need to spend anywhere near Extreme Edition CPUs... :evils:

I will only add my additional 2GB of RAM when I upgrade to a 64-bit OS. You guys can refer to my Sig for my system details

OCing a Q6600 is so easy (I upped mine from 2.4GHz to 3.0GHz without even messing with voltages).

I must disagree with you on one point though. While running two SMP clients (using Affinity Changer) produces more points per day, Stanford encourages running only one SMP client, as they want the results of a downloaded work unit ASAP. Running a single SMP in Linux on an OCd Q6600 returns those big units very fast.

I can't wait to see how well Nehalem folds (I think it is probably going to be overkill for games). I am sure it will be in my replacement folding rig two Christmas' from now.

I am building it specifficly to Future proof it as much as possible. It has worked out well for me in the past. This rig I'm typing on has lasted me 6 years and is just now starting to show it's age. There's nothing I've used so far that has left me wanting a new rig until just recently. FSX is one, and I know FO is gonna take alot of raw horsepower.

My goal is to build a System that will run FSX with sliders maxed. We'll see how that works out. If it doesn't, then nothing in the world will. If that doesn't do it, I'm giving up on it. That should be more than enough system to run anything, and if it brings a Nehlem System to it's knees then the program is absolute utter crap, and poorly coded. I don't make statements like that lightly either. That's one of the things MS needs to work on. It's great to have a Sim that takes advanatge of stuff IF people can run it. It's another thing to just throw it together in an inefficient way that leads to slideshows when the sliders are up.

If there is a eye candy slider, I want it cranked. Turning off trees, shadows, and clouds is the crap I went through with MSFS 2000 when it came out. If it does it again, FSX will be the last MSFS they sell to me. I know what demanding is, and what clean efficient coding is, and you can have both. I also know what a Memory leaking, snails pace slideshow crawl is, and that's a trend that has plagued FSX. We'll see if the top of the line cures it, or if it really is useless.

I'm gonna fold too with that new rig. I'm gonna everything with it after it's run for 25 hours, then I'll OC it, bench it and we'll see about loading up some new titles and pushing it a little. After I spend a couple weeks with it becnhing it and finding it's 24/7 Stable OC I'll load FAH and let 'er fly!

Looks like the b0oard we are waiting on is Tylersburg-DT for the Nehalem chips.

Also please note that much of this info comes from sources who are agressive at releasing info. Sometimes they release info that is more fiction thatn fact. Also much of this info can change, and often does, so even if it was correct from the horses mouth in the beginning, it could change before release.

Saying that, I have heard this term used throughout many forums, and suspect it's leaked. It is also backed up with some pictures of a reference board that is laid out like no other and has a 1366 socket, so it looks like it's based on more fact this time around.

I'll add to this as things change. They always do. This is bleeding edge. The CPU, the mobo, and trhe ram kits for it is not out yet, and there are some expe3cted release dates, but they are NOT final.

This info is presented for those that like to looks ahead to the very latest. With this particular CPU, Intel has made quite a feat! It's definitely gonna put fun factor back into my Lian Li Case!

Yeah, I bought it awhile back. I've been upgrading periferals, and added a Linsys Router, and all that good stuff like my 32" WS.

I got the Lian Li V2000B Plus. It's the eATX case. It's BIG, and has alot of space. It's got more than enough for 2 IWAKI's if you wanted them. I'm gonna remove 3 of the drive bays from the lower section to give me plenty of space to mount the pump for my water setup when I get it. I'm just gonna do the single loop with MCP pump. Whatever MCP number they are on now...I believe it's 655?

Lian Li's are works of art. They have alot of exclusive design features that make them run cool. Mine has the inverted mobo, and the PSU is on the bottom separted by a panel. It has the mesh case design where the front back and bottom are mesh to allow good airflow. It came with 3x120's. Mine has the tricked out aluminum wheels. It also has a special CD Door that flips open for CD/DVD drives that maks the case look nice. Even the power button is aluminum. There is no plastic on these cases.

I knew when I bought it, that I only needed to buy one Lian Li. I got a big one with plenty of room. I love that case.

I on the other hand, prefer the old skool Lian Li PC-7plus. And yes, its the MCP-655 model which is pretty much what I am using too. Another fine choice dude....

(Just incase, D5 and 655 pumps are made by the same ppl)
