ATI Radeon X1650 Pro vs. Nvidia 8800

Hi Fans,

Which video card is more preferable? -ATI RadeonX1650 or nVidia8800- What makes it better and why most Gaming Computers like the DELL XPS 720 come w/ nVidia rather than ATI Radeon graphics?

Here you can compare framerates from different graphics cards running different programs. This is one of the resources that I used when I built my computer. I went with the Nvidia 8800GT 512MB since it seemed to be the best trade off between price and performance. It's a great card. No complaints here, and it's gotten a lot cheaper since I bought it a couple of months ago. Hope this helps.

Yep. It IS a great card... I just bought it along with a new processor and 4GB of RAM and...WHOOBOY! It is SCREAMING! I might be buying a second one when I have a bit of extra money.

8800GT G92 core for sure! X1650 is simply old and 8800GT is the best mainstream card atm.

I play Call of Duty 4 @ max settings as well as FSX at max settings and get very playable framerates.

And I agree with Wildkat that the X1650 is old...admittedly I only had the AGP x8 version on my old X1600 board, so I can't compare them directly.

8800 series hands down

Out of those 2 8800, but both cards are getting very dated now. If you haven't bought anything already there are some real record holders out there.

Right now, the GTX260 and 280 series cards are on top. I've priced GTX280 Superclocked versions for 430-460 US dolalrs online. Do some pricechecking at Newegg, and other e-tailers. If you want top of the line the GTX280 is it. If you want one step down for lesas the GTX260 is a good deal, but nowhere near the card the 280 is.

I know the OP is a little dated, but do your homework, and search the Internet well for deals. You'd be surprised sometimes at the deals you can get. Sometimes you gotta be fast though. The places with the deals sell out fast on top shelf hardware, and then pull them from their sites. There is some luck involved too. :smile:
