Bombernight at WoP

Hey guys,
Not sure how many of you still have 46 on your hard drive but there will be a bombernight hosted by Warbirds of Prey coming up soon. Bombernight is a map set up specifically to encourage teamwork to win the mission. It is pretty awe inspiring to see 20+ bombers in formation and hitting targets. I flew on bombernight last friday and had a blast. The track I made was awesome to watch... especially the low level ingress to target in formation... WOW!

The server is "full real" and Teamspeak is highly encouraged (but not required).

This is pretty cool man... haven't flown il2 in a looooong time, but definitely cool. That's also usually what i did, fly bombers from the sturmovik to the heavy twins. Although, judging from your videos... any of you guys ever reach your objective and come home alive?... ever?

Yes, on most maps many of us make the targets and make it back home alive. The Bombernight on Apr 4 was a slaughter for the bombers as red was using solid tactics and communicating well on TS... I got 3 Bettys with my trusty P-40E. That isn't really what bombernight is about though. It's about getting together with a great group of guys and accomplishing a mission (which is one of the reasons they turn their stats off for Bombernight). There were 61 pilots on on friday, Apr 11, and from their comments, all had a really good time. Red lost the mission by one Truck not getting blown up. We hit several hundred other tanks, trucks and assorted ground targets but lost by only one truck... Good fun though. I'm looking forward to this friday night... Hoping for a B-25 map.

Oh wait, i'm not sure i understand the format... i though it was player bombers against AI fighters CAS? Now i get the impression its two sides of players in bombers and fighters as escort? That's even better! i might just join in on that action LOL

Me too! I enjoyed IL2 the first time I played it and still do very much!:thumb: Funny how I stumbled across it at a Thrift Store... now looking back I thank God I went to that Thrifty.:lol IL2 eventually introduced me to LOMAC!!!

All pilots are human pilots... No AI at all. There are two sides, Red and Blue, and there are usually multiple targets for the bombers to go after. I usually get two or three sorties in before the mission time limit ends. Remember, this is full real cockpit only and your minimap has no icons other than airfields so if you don't usually fly like this then a little practice should be in order (It's not that hard to get used to though). It helps to be on Teamspeak to aid in forming up, vectoring to intercept the bandits, announce your intentions and call for help if needed.

Don't worry about realism, i used to fly with the 249th IAP (http://www.altitude.us/) under the Alias "Shooric". Played for about 1 year and a half with them before i sort of let go of IL2 alltogether. It was a hell of a lot of fun, doing campaigns and stuff with other clans. Although at the time, we didn't have 10mbs internet connections and quad core CPUs... so playing 20+ was exciting and rare ehhe Unfortunately, i haven't heard from the clan in over a year... so i think it might be disbanded. The site's still up tho...

however, its been well over 2 years since i installed or played IL2 FB... barely played ACE and never even saw 1946... but i'm so happy to see that IL2 is so strong today! such a good game.

Its Bombernight again. In half an hour there will be a formation of B-25's forming up to bomb mainland Japan. P-38's and P-51's will be escorting and the defenders will have Ki-84's and A6M-7 Zeros. Its going to be a blast.

This last Bombernight was one of the best yet! The fighting was the most exhilerating yet. The sheer intensity of the fights were awesome! I was flying B-25 #11... Killed by FLAK after bombs away on the first run, lost my right wing on the second run to an exploding Ki-84 before dropping and the left wing to FLAK on the third run just after my drop. I was in the #3 position in the lead formation on every run to target. The amount of moving parts was a real sight to behold. It's going to be hard to top this one. Heres a Vid of the highlights. All planes are piloted by actual people.

Tonight it looks like they are re-doing the Zerstorier mission if they can't get Polesti up and running in time. Either way they promise to be a lot of fun.
