What would you purchase? Ok, so you currently have an ATI Radeon X1950 PRO 256 MB video card. You've got about $300-$350 to spend on a new one... what do you buy and why?..

P.S. you want to go with Nvidia now, no longer an ATI fan.

In the thread below yours a lot of people including FO guys are recommending the 8800GT 512mb. I have looked into the 8800GT as well and it has a good combination of speed and price. Check out the thread:

8800GT 512MB (core G92) is the right choice. Very good price/performance and its price tag is within your budget. Forget about ATI atm... their cards are cheaper but their performance are poor...

Alright, so a lot of people are saying the 8800GT G92 version... but what about the 8800GTS G92 that Acedy has spoken about? Is the GTS version only SLIGHTLY better and not really worth extra money or is the GT version just better overall?

I got the 8800 GTS 512 mb .. The main reason for me was that you got the air out of the box.

This will increase the overall cooling inside the box .. hard drives etc.

The 512 mb have the same G92 as GT 512 .. be aware of the old 318 mb

About noice level. I used to have a 6800 before and that was much more noicer.
The only minus I got so far is that i takes up 2 slots even at the far end of it.
The result was that I lost 2 slots for the hard drives. I solved that by moving one up under the card reader and one just sitting loose at the bottom of the box.

ATI have what I understand realesed a new card so the prises will probably go down.

When it comes to high settings. If if run FSX and a shopper with ultimate settings the fps will drop to in the worst scenario to about 5 over very dense areas.
But it's miles from my old 6800...

The ATI HD 3870 X2 has great performance. It is worth consideration if you haven't got yourself something by this time.

Try the GeForce 8800 series. I got the 8800 GTS 640 MB and I am really happy with it.
