I hope the game is a bit smoother. I dont know what it is, but movement in the game doesnt feel fluid; almost a bit robotic. I would absolutly love ArmA if it felt a bit better while walking around trying to stay alive. I also have a lot of graphical bugs, like textures not loading or something. Any of the news reports are basically sound with some blobs on the screens, or even in the world itself lots of textures flash on and off. Using a fairly top of the line card (GeForce 8800 GTX) I wouldnt expect that stuff. Anyways, love the game, hope the second one feels different.

One of the things I have been wanting for ArmA... A Hind! It would also be nice to have an OH-58D and OV-10 also.
Tomcats Rule! Anytime Baby!
Nobody knows if they are actual screenshots or if they were photoshoped?
To Vampyre: I know there is a mod for ArmA were you can fly a Hind. You can be two players in it but you cannot rotate the gun and it has only rockets. It can transport troops though and it's pretty.
You should try it if you're interested in this bird

I already have it but I find it to be lacking. I play online most of the time and no servers use it online that I have found. The Hinds really need to be tweaked a bit. The Mi-24P's 30mm gun has the hitting power of a Red Ryder BB gun and the AT-6 missiles are finicky at best. I also hate how the landing gear cycle in and out at low speeds and altitudes. It looks stupid seeing a couple of Hinds flying a slow formation with the landing gear cycling like that. The biggest thing is no multiplayer servers have them because they are not an official part of the game and few people would be able to join if they were included.

I hope they model British DPM and weaponary, every time a game like this comes out theres never anything like the LSW or L85 etc so brit squads have to mod it every time.

Thanks for the update... nice screens!
How about the Cobra and the Blackhawk? Did they drop them off? I guess their aircraft list is not the full list.
And their "Ka-52" definitely looks like a Ka-50 :blank:
Nice screens though. I like the Hind and the gound/trees
I wonder when OFP2 is going to be released, they might release both at the same time.

This is pretty cool! I have been eyeing ArmA for awhile. From the reportsd here so far it looks like a patch may be in order. They'll get it. ArmA is BIG! There is a HUGE ArmA following, and there is all kinds of mods for this game. I'm sure in time ArmA 2 will be the norm just like CoD4 and Halo 3, and all these new titles are now. Updates, and new versions are inevitable. We want them, they will come.
Here's hoping they fix some of the awkwardness of the first... movements were pretty rigid.
pretty rigid and sometimes don't make any sense :
1. You can't jump. This is a good point for human vs human online. It's very frustrating to see you opponent jumping everywhere while you're firing at him.
But on another hand, being forced to make a U-turn during a farm assault just because you can't jump a little fence or a tree trunk is even more stupid.
2. You can't move when you reload. I agree you have to reload under cover, but it's totally unrealistic not to be able to move (even walk or crouch) when you reload your light (gun, rifle) weapon.
Those two things apart, it's an awesome game (sim?) and the greatest FPS I've played online.
f-18hornet

I've read 1/2 year ago that in ArmA II you'll be able to jump but about reloading I don't know yet.
There are mods so you can jump and climb as for the reloading that can also be modified. IRL there is a limit as to how much you can carry before you are unable to jump and that limitation should be reflected in Arma if such mods are used.

Yep..Thx!
I am a fan of the OFP/ArmA/ArmAII series but there are some sad facts about it.
Arma II is adding more fly-toys that well exceed the scale of the game terrain without significantly upgrading the ground experience. Because the AI and squad management was so horrible and simplistic, you would think that BIS would finally add in the logic to have soldiers grouped as squads, squads grouped as platoons, platoons grouped as companies, etc. Nope, instead they just reduced the focus so you only control 5 soldiers max at one time (at least the campaign is built this way).
As for jumping, soldiers don't really jump, they clamber over obstacles. There was a mod out that added a switchMove type animation that would step over low fences and such. Seems to work pretty nice in the videos. I kind of like a semi-clunky soldier movement as it is pretty real as you'll notice if you ever try to run around in 40+ pounds of "battle rattle." That's not to say that ArmA/OFP's animation and player movement system is not 1990's tech that desperately needs improvement.
Bigger islands, move air-toys, and such are nice distractions but you have to temper your enthusiasm by remember all those niggles from previous games that are likely to still be there right in the middle of how you play most of the game.

Just a note:
AI of team members and enemies will be radically improved by "micro AI" and because of that is recommended dual or better quad-core processor. They just will be much more "smarter" than soldiers in ArmA or in OFP.
So you will need:
Minimum
CPU: C2D
512MB RAM
GPU: GFX with SM 3.0 and 256MB of video memory.
OS: XP/ Vista
Recommended
CPU: C2Q
1GB RAM
GPU: GFX with SM 3.0 and 512MB of video memory.(GeForce 8800/ ATI 3870) or better.
OS: XP/ Vista

Arg, the controls are still dodgy.

In that one shot above that gunner on top of that vehicle is looking off to the left and there are no rounds or smoke coming out. Man, I'd already have opened up on those Hind's! hahaha I'd have the barrel smokin' until both of them became a smokin' hole in the ground. :sniper
Bigger super weapons, a small number of stolen mod features, more fly toys, smaller squad sizes... yeah, not really interested in Arma2 anymore. It's becoming a console-tard game.
What stolen mod features? How can they be stolen when its not even released yet or do you mean stolen from Arma 1? If its a whole new program how can it be stolen. Good on them for adding features and improvements that weren't in the first version.

What will be in ArmA II?:
USMC
United States Marine Corps
USMC deployment in Chernarus consists of 27th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable), which is supposed to overturn the balance in the civil war in the favor of Chernarussian government. Marines are skilled in assymetrical warfare and are backed up by superior weapons and technology.
USMC

What will be in ArmA II?(part2):
Citizens of Chernarus
Proud people of Chernarus were divided by the civil war and its consequences. Majority of Chernarussian citizens are of Chernarussian nationality, with their own language and culture. There is also Russian ethnic minority living mainly in the northern territories, where Russian is second official language. People are also divided by their political alignments and sympathies.
Citizen
„Yes, I'm pretty sure 'twas him. Yeah, it might have been a group of guerillas in ghillie suits, but Sir, snipers surely wouldn't try to unscrew that Chedak's head!“
- from notes of Cpt. Dressler, Marine Corps Intelligence Activity
* Chernarussians are mostly villagers or foresters. City people from the coast work mainly in harbours and factories.
* After the civil war, life is equally boring everywhere: not much remains of the few cultural events and entertainment the distant Northern Province previously had to offer.
* Citizens are quite friendly to soldiers, sometimes even providing valuable intel. However, they rarely speak English, so knowledge of Chernarussian or Russian really helps.
* Causing any harm to the civilian population could lead to a loss of support and hostility towards the soldiers.....

ChDKZ
Chernarussian Movement Of The Red Star
Although the communist insurgency has its roots in underground, it is now conventional force with military structure and weapon platforms captured from Chernarussian government or provided by international arms dealers. This has given ChDKZ enough power to start coup against the government.

* Equipment of CDF soldiers is a mixture of older gear, modern kevlar helmets and camouflage fatigues based on Soviet airborne uniform design. Soldiers are armed with AK-74 rifles, PKMs and other personal weapons of Eastern provenience.
* CDF uses whole spectrum of Cold-War era vehicles: T-72 main battle tanks, BRDM-2 and BMP-2 personel carriers, UAZ cars and Ural trucks.

Russian contingent of Chernarussian Peacekeeping Forces consists of elite Guard Motor Rifle battalion, reinforced by armor, artillery and attack helicopter detachments. Based on their previous experience with counter-guerilla operations, Russians also make good use of special forces.

Wow, I love the screenshots. Not checked, but how is TH2G compatability? Will it be hard to add your own aircraft to the game?

WOW :thumb:
These are sweet. Are these screenies actual playable in-game shots or are they the in-game movie imagery?

Sadly, first tests show atrocious performance apparently

anything higher than normal settings will bring any computer to its knees. Even T_Flight's :wink2:

One needn't set max settings to play a game. It just means that the settings are so high that future hardware will be able to probably use max but not now. I never understand why people base their gaming experience on max settings?

It's not that. I'm just affraid that for Arma2 to be playable, one may need to turn the settings so low it starts looking like Arma1 or worse.

OK, I heard that. :rofl Bring it! I'll crank it up. I may get this if I have time, and see what will happen. Just fromn the looks, it looks like it may like SLI. It has a kinda Fallout 3 look to the water, but has some hints of FC2 in the effects. I'll have to read up on wherther it has PhysX or Havok support. If it has PhysX and stuff is turned on it may need a little more Video card than they have now. It looks like this thing may be out about GT300 GPU timeframe.
These games are not usually CPU oriented, but there are a few like GTA4 and others that the CPU helps. Just throw alot of Video card at it! It's only money right?
Edit: Oh no! It doesn't support Multi-GPU platforms, and even an i7 won't help it. They neutered it. It's not that there isn't enough GPU processing power...it's that you can't utilize it. :( Bummer. It's the engine. I think they need to put the release date off a bit and fix those issues or this release will be a disaster.
