If I'm not mistake those aircrafts wings were made of cloth.
And looking at that movie, a slightly camo painted AC has reflections on cloth wings? Could be as I'm not really knowledgable in that era of flight.

The shadows are nice though.

No Mr Pacman i believe you are correct, also if they were made of metal they would not be held together by wood and would not be in that shape.

Am i correct in think that it is acctually a very small map, nothing planet scaling?

I love the terrain, both at low and high altitude. i'd buy the sim just to fly in this world.
Though I think there's an effect in this vid. Like too much saturation or something about the colors...

new video. This time, it's about interactions between air particles and planes.
A new step is being done in the area of flight simulations? Anyway this looks really amazing.
Will FO model this and airflow as detailed as this?

here's the video : GT_promo8 (http://www.gennadich.com/files/628/file/multi/GT_Promo8.zip)

They used Dope to cover the fabric. The dope was the similar stuff that you use today on flying model airplanes. The dope actually tightens up the fabric. I believe the varnish was used as a sealer, just like you would seal furniture. So the fuselage and wings would have a reflective look about them and especially so, under certain circumstances like rain or cloud droplets or dew, anything really and there probably would be a sheen on the surface.

see the Sopwith at the WPAF museum: http://www.wwiaviation.com/cammo.html

The museum restores these planes to exact specs right down to the cloth and dope.

They also used varnishes as well. I've done a couple of plastic modeling with WWI aircraft and done some research on the type of paint used. It's cloth/dope/varnish.

Most of the airplanes were wooden frames with a little bit of sheet metal around the cockpit tub area, depending on the manufacturer/designer. All metal airplanes weren't popularized until after the war, in the late 1920's and 30's if I'm not mistaken.

This was the day and age of serious dog fighting. This is where aerial dogfights were born. In fact we almost lost the ability to dogfight in Vietnam because some idiot decided a gun on a jet wasn't necessary. Boy he was wrong. That's why they started up Red Flag and Top Gun.

I'd really love to see this sim. to completion and would love to get into the old biplanes and do some serious dogfighting.

Really great Knights of the Sky WWI display in Omaka - Blenheim at top of South Island NZ. Went through last week while down at Woodbourne and they have done a great job!

Tis owned by Peter Jackson so the Weta Workshop boys have done up some great action dioramas/displays and the like. Quite a few of the aircraft actually fly also.

And as you can see in the pics and as AFU mentioned yep they do reflect light etc. Check the 'The Exhibits' link out.

I love the look of KOTS, but I can't download the videos for some reason. I'm on a cable modem, but the download starts at about 38 KB/s (!) and quickly drops down to 0, where it stays forever. I only get this from the KOTS site and one other site in Germany. Any one else have this problem. Has any one found an alternate site that has the videos?

It just hit me. YouTube! :red: OK. I'll move KOTS from my watch list to my Must Have list. :thumb:
