2 in my squad have recently got it and i was considering it.

But they both have advised of massive bugs in game (of the showstopping vriety)

They did mention it has some exellent potential - but both have shelved it until another patch has been released addressing the issues

I bought my the French version some months ago. I really enjoy it. :smile:
You can make some really interesting missions.
The thing that really astonished me is the mission editor. I've never seen a mission editor as powerfull as the one of ArmA. You can do absolutely EVERYTHING you want, from controlling AI actions to make an event happen under some conditions... :bigeyes:

It's an awesome game (should I say sim?:wink2: )

But you need a strong computer to make it run though. :sad:
My 2.6Gz/1Gb DDR/nvidia6800 has some difficulties to make it run with min. graphic settings @1024x768 ...

If you're not sure if your PC will run it smoothly, you should download the demo. In my opinion, it represents well the final product.

Yeah it is a good simulation in some respects however in my opinion they should have far better AI, Being that on one mission I was fighting against an enemy at night that was not fitted out with NGV's, but when I engaged them with a supressed weapon they sorted a GRIT out in about 10 seconds. On the flip side my squad is less use than tits on a fish.
The sound is also really bad although this can now be modified by a 3rd party download.
With the bad news out of the way the gfx are rather good with wave effects and really nice looking HDR the mission planner is very impressive and best of all the helicopter flying is far far better the that of op flashpoint.

So is there a list of "must have mods" that make the game ok or is it a case of "that many mods - everyone has something different as there is no standard" ?

I got it when it first came out. It was in german but I just downloaded the lanugage pack.

Not a bad game, but not many people play it plus the maps are HUGE

I loved ArmA, but didn't get the full version simply because my system can't handle it. I was getting about 20fps MAX so it was just unplayable, plus the sounds were pretty awful but apart from that its good. I thought the enemy AI was pretty good in comparison to other games like Ghost Recon.

I have it, it's good. It's real strength is its engine and the modding commuity around it. You should see some of the stuff that was done by the mod community for the old OFP. Have a look round this guys sight, look for videos of "Shack Tactical" battles with the "War Gamers League" mod.

The demo I think had worse performance than the full game.

Regarding the sound the demo had some good sound fx like the crack-thump if you're getting shot at but that was with sound acceleration on. The mods for OFP are awesome the latest FFURSLX2007 is quite good so it'll be no surprise if Arma gets the same sort of mods later on.

The real incredible thing about ArmA is it is so modable, more modable than any game i have ever played (should take into account the fact that i never played OFP). There are already thousands of adons and the SDK pack isn't even out yet.
