Is there a utility software that effectively controls your cooling fans in your rig? All the fans I have that are connected to the PSU works fine however one fan I have I connected to the 3pin slot on the mainboard just don't run. I downloaded Intel's Desktop Utility and when I fire that software up, the fan starts but gradually slows down and stops. No luck with the BIOS since this is a Sony RC-210G...

Highly probable that the fan is bad... have you tried switching it with one of the others to see if it works fine?

My northbridge fan would spin for a bit, but then grind to a halt quite a bit before it finally went entirely.

This fan I am talking about is an Antec SmartCool. It is working when connected through 4 pin molex PSU cable. There are two 3-pin motherboard header slots on this intel mobo that you directly connect the fans to, one front fan, one rear fan, for some reason the motherboard is not powering them. It only powers them when system is restarted (or Intel's utility is started) and then drops to zero RPM. I think I will get a PSU molex power extension and use those motherboard slots for only monitoring... I bet anything that fan control is in BIOS settings which Sony has blocked off most.
