My brother's bought a Core2 Duo 2.18 and as an example, he runs HalfLife2 at max settings smoothly (very much higher than 25 frames/sec). I've not really seen any other aps/games he's played, but that has me convinced alright. If a 2.18 can do what it takes a P4 3.2Ghz (what I have now), the day I can afford it, I'll get me one (maybe a 2.4Ghz though :) )

Im running a 1.6 DUO in a dell laptop with a gig of DDR2 ram x1300 ati card and run falcon with hitiles on 1600x1050 res without a hiccup. Ive heard Falcon AF is optimised for the Duo core and it shows. I think you'd be very happy

Well i have the duo 6600 at 2.4 ghz and its nothn special. I would wait a little for the quads to come down in price. Remember its not just the processor, You got to have good video and memory too.
Thanks for all these reply's it's been very helpfull. And to Apples yes you are quite right on the GPU and RAM being very important, and its giving me a sore head trying to choose a graphics card, maybe I need to start another thread.
Kind regards James (Lowblow)

I bought a 6600 2 months ago. Along with a 7950 GT 512 Mbyte. I am really satisfied. Great performance, even with MSFSx. Runs at 20fps at 85% of the graphics turned up. With a DX10 graphics card it will get even better. It is a great processor and it comes relatively cheap.

I bought a 6400 a while back........compared to the P4 3.4Ghz I had before, it SCREAMS!
It's smoooooooooooooooth framerates @ max settings in pretty much all the games I've played with it.
I have a 6000 OC'd to 2.6 (for now) I am really happy with it. Having said that I did upgrade from an AMD 2500+ running at 1.8 :red:
I also have an 8800GTS and 2gigs of Corsair dominator RAM, all running on a Asus P5N32-SLI which allows really easy and safe oc of the CPU.
