Okay i've been on the website at microsoft and searched through these forums, but unable to find out which vista edition is needed for my computer, i use just for gaming mostly, dont care about all the extra bs programs that are added into the other editions besides basic, but does premium have any advantage over the basic edition for playing games?

That's very funny! Thanks for that! Rep inbound
"Vista"? The same for "Sight" in English?
No, thanks - can't get any good "Vista" from here, I'm at my office now...

My recommendation would be none atm. Vista has driver issues and will for the immediate future. Why in the world would you want Vista right now? No DX10 yet, no DX10 games out, ungodly expensive DX10 solutions atm. Nothing about Vista is must have right now. It's lipstick on a pig atm.
True, BHawthorne... and that to say the least about their advantages, not mentioning their excessive price for upgrading, I mean. :nono:

Unless you want total hell with DirectX games that are not meant to run in DX10, forget it.
Falcon 4, IL2, and other games that use (either in full or optionally (IL2 can run in OGL also)) DirectX at the moment have severe issues with see through models.
Not to mention, the system resources get sucked up quite fast, leaving many games to run slow.
Plus, can you say "Trusted Computing"? It in itself isn't worth getting the OS.
I've tried the pre-release beta, and had nothing but problems, and apparently according to first reports, alot of them didn't get fixed.

not planning on getting it right away, i'm gonna wait untill i am ready for a dx10 card, waiting to see what ati will come out with, and than i might get vista along with a new video card. i am planning on getting the basic edition probally in about 4-6 months unless FO comes out before hand :] and was only wondering if the premium had anything special in it for playing games.
EDIT: unless i see some really bad a$! videos or screenshots from fsx than i might have to upgrade b4 planned

AFAIK, FSX shoudl run on Vista as it was designed to and has the DX10 code in it.

yup that's why im anxious to see some vids or pics w/it
I'm not sure that the DX10 code is already integrated into FSX. I think I read somewhere that right now it is only DX9 but there will be a free update available on MS' website to "convert" it to DX10 for those with Vista.
Will there be a dx9_to_dx10 patch for winXP?
Well...short answer is no since DX10 won't be available at all for Windows XP. If you want to play DX10 games (with DX10 graphics) you will need Vista.

Microsoft had already announced that DX9 was all the further WinXp was to go to.
Thanks for the answers guys.
I don't want to switch to Vista though. The later the better. I'll wait for Fighter Ops.
Thanks again

You're right, there is no real reason to use Vista at all. Nothing it brings to the table is compelling to me. The system requirements are noticably higher to do the same things XP does faster. Microsoft has really missed the mark this time around IMHO. I think adaption and phase in of this OS is going to take awhile.
