I wouldn't buy either with 8ms time. Any LCD that you buy new now is dated. upcoming LCDs will have 120 hertz insted of 60 or 75 witch are suppose to perform better. Also look for 4-2 ms the smaller the better. Examples http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7894086&type=product&productCategoryId=pcmcat104900050011&id=1149205183814

We can start talking about color, ghosting and such but I would make a better list first. Just wait a few months if you can.

I can't afford anything more than £150 ish tbh so I don't know if something high spec is within my budget I just want something thats fairly good to replace my dieing CRT monitor I've had for the last 6ish years.
Plus they were all US models so they wouldn't work over here...different power adapter I should imagine.
Yeah they were just examples to get an idea of what to look for in specs.
My 2 cents...
I have one question: what are you going to use it for? I mean, games, movies and any kind of image processing (2D or 3D)? It must be at least games. In that case, I would personally go for a CRT. Yeah, those LCDs are fancy and hurt your eyes less, but a CRT with TCO'03 is very good, is cheaper and has a much better quality than any LCD. Well, that's till good OLED screens come "online".:evils:
I have a CRT, a Samsung SyncMaster 796MB, yeah, it's only 17", but I like it. I wouldn't trade it for any LCD, but I'm also into a bit of image processing, so a CRT is the way to do it. And since I can't afford anything really pro, a Samsung is just fine. You can of course go for an LG LCD, they're fine, but I would go for a Samsung or Philips. They're the best in their segment.:thumb:
Don't buy anything with more than 4ms, it's not worth it. Also, the higher the contrast ratio, the better and the lower the point dimension, the merrier, but don't forget the dead pixels, as they can be a pain in the ass. Philips and Samsung are very good at producing high quality screens.

My 0.05c - Personally I would say go with the Samsung as they make nice screens.
But watch the max res - I went with the Samsung Syncmaster 204B 20" 1600x1200 5ms DVI as it was the smallest that comes with a native 1600x1200 which I like to play all my games at, and a good rate of 5ms - all at a good price.
Definitely no complaints so far - and I much prefer the profile on my desk compared to my old 21" CRT!
