Hi all,

This week my new rig will be delivered and im asking all of you to rate it. I'd like to be able to play Fighter Ops and untill its released i'd like to play MSFS X. That one i bought 4 weeks ago ant wasnt playable on my old rig. So, it lies barely touched on my desk waiting for better times.

Please take a minute and let the following information sink in.

Old rig:
XP2800, 1 gig ram, ATI 9800 pro.

New one:
Intel E6600 core duo 2x2,4 Ghz
250 gig SATA HD
1 gig ddrII ram, 800 mhz (Will upgrade to 2 gig when prices will fall)
Nvidia 7950 gt
asus P5B e motherboard

Could anyone tell me if MSFS x will be playable at high graphics?

The best reply will be treated with a few screnshots!!!

Regards, Lustypooh

Probably not...

it's good but as you noted, your missing the 2gig ram and I believe there are better graphics cards above that one.

Also i'd be getting a second hdd identical to that one and running RAID.

I'd rate that a 7-8 on todays standards which means by the time FO comes out it will be about mid range.

PS it's better than my current rig, but i am trying to give you a realistic appraisal as you requested.

Anyone has experience with these types of hardware??

What are your opinions?

Nice rig but as mentioned I dooubt it would play MXFS X at full settings. The new top line DX10 cards are far better than even a current SLI setup - and don't be shy with that RAM!.
Personally I would have gone for a 150 gig Raptor drive for games (well I have but hey) poss 2 in a RAID array if that floats your boat.
Not sure about Intel CPU's but that sounds pretty nifty.

My Old system was as follows....

System #2
AMD 64 4200+ OCed to 2.8mgz
2 Gig Ram
Creative XFI Fatal Pro
Asus K8V SE Delux
Nividia 6800 GT AGP

Upgrade #1

System #2
Intel Core 2 Duo e6600 Oced to 6800 CPU (Saved $600 bucks)
2 gigs of ram
Creative XFI Fatal Pro
Inte Bad Axe PCIe Board (at work dont know the act board)
evga 7950 gx2 (Old card)

Current System
Intel Core 2 Duo e6600 Oced to 6800 CPU (Saved $600 bucks)
2 gigs of ram
Creative XFI Fatal Pro
Inte Bad Axe PCIe Board (at work dont know the act board)
Nvidia 8800 GTX (Step-up program with evga)

With the overall upgrade to the system #2 with the 7950 gx2 I was not pleased with the performance gain, even with another 7950 gx2 still no masive gain like I thought I would have:nono: . But with the new 8800GTX now were cooking, I saw a total FPS increase of 75% to 80% with this card in Lockon:smile: , and thats with 16x aa and 16x AF set in the Nvidia Control. FSX is a total beast on both cpu and gpu, with AA and AF at x16 max avg of FPS is around 20 to 30 out the front of the cockpit, look towards a city and the frames drop to 10 to 15. And here is one tip what ever you do DO NOT TURN ON LIGHT BLOOM, want to talk about a slide show!!

I score about 12,000 ish with my system in 3dmark06 Lockon is looking great for what I want it for (www.virtualthunderbirds.com), BF2142 is just a total different, lighting, effects so on so fourth, But with FSX I'll install it when DX10 and vista get out. But as for running fighterops, I'm pretty sure you will be able to run it like I was able to run Lockon with system #1. So your best deal is to do this:

Upgrade MOBO to a SLI X16 board (EVGA 680i would be the best!)(My next upgrade)
Core 2 Duo (Best cpu for the money)(e6600 OC's very easy some with stock cooling)
2 gigs of the fastest ram for the board you have
Creative XFI the 64mb if ram on the board makes a diff, I have seen it when I put it on system #1
atleast a RAID setup in the performance array, plus if you want you can set up a mirror array for your OS on a diff RAID set up.

So there is my outlook for you, Now I give your rig a 5-6 more towards 6.

Ok now you guys please rate my rig, keep in ming that I have a 2nd 8800gtx in the mail right now will be in system by monday so if you want rate it with the single 8800gtx and a rate with 2 8800gtx

Thanks

Cinch

That is one mean system!

To be honest, I can't see much of a case for 2 8800GTX's at the moment because, from what I have read, you only get a 'real' performance boost if you have a huge monitor setup (i.e. 30 inch plus).

That being said, I am looking at a setup along similar lines (minus the second 8800) but am awaiting on two things:

1. VISTA and how it is received by the public (I can't see the point in getting it asap and becoming a paying 'beta' tester for M$ - especially after my experiences with FS X).

2. What ATI/AMD come up with - in the form of the R600. I'm thinking it should hit the streets after March and then I will have a choice of two DX10 compatible cards- more choice means lower prices too  .

Looks like a very nice config m8...
Just one question, maybe I i've missed it, but I hope your powersupply is at least a 1000W... that's the minimum you need when putting 2 8800GTX cards.

Would be a shame if you had a too weak powersupply, that can't support, and gives and electric shock true the system, which could almost destroy it all .

1000W is a little overkill. 800w will probably be enough.

I don't think that will run Quad SLI if you are using the 8800 (the 8800 uses about 225w each by itself).

OK srry,
just wanted to say that, I would feel bad if a system like that, would fail because of a thing like the powersupply

;)
