just looking in too building my own pc and i'm thinking is it worth getting a quad core now or get a high end dual core
Is there any games that the quad core can be fully use or is it going to be one for the pc after this one

I think the largest question is do you multitask a lot? Second question would be, is your budget going to allow for it? If so, go for it. The same justification goes for dual core, as both are multi-processors with the same user habits and justification. Some games upcoming in 2007 will be harnessing multi-core. Just something to research and ponder specifics over.

These are the points, BHawthorne - only because I don't want to waste my hard earned money, most of all.
Unfortunately, I had to upgrade my system and pay 456 Euros for an Intel dual core processor and a proper motherboard... so farewell my Christmas presents for this year.:nono:

Jackal out.

If you do anything right now... DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT BUY QUAD GRAPHICS CARDS RIGHT NOW

Most graphics cards out now with the ability to be quad are not DX10. DX10 is vista only, so once microsoft releases vista, then by all means gobble up whatever video cards that support this are available.

Trust me if you buy 4 graphics cards now, they will be as good as trash when FO comes out in the next year or two. It's really up to you if you want to make small investments over the next few years or Huge ones every 3 or 4 years.

If it was me, I would wait until windows vista, and even then wait a little bit to make sure all the DX10 cards have all their bugs worked out.

If you have any other questions Pm me and I actually have a couple of high quality cards floating around if your interested.

Hope this helps!

There is only two quad core GPUs atm. They are 7900GX2 and 7950GX2. Neither are current generation. You're mixing up what is being talked about though. The thread is about CPU not GPU. :wink2:

And for the beer ! :lol

Seriously, It depends of how runs programs with Quad core, if it's like Dual Core or if it needs rework for Optimal Performances with Quad.

As it has been stated that Fighter Ops will be heavily multithreaded, I would imagine quad core would be greatly desired for this sim.

But by the time FO comes out, we may have oct-core or even more.

Ah yes...

Of course, you will need a matter/anti-matter reactor to power that thing...

Octa-Cores wont be out that soon. FO should be out by Q2/Q3 2007 so I suggest you hold on with the purchase as Intel's Penryn and AMD's Agena are comin in 2007. From the current info, Penryn is touted to be an optimisation and true Quad of the current Intel Quad Core which means much lesser power comsumption and heat output as the current Quad-Core is quite beast while at max processing load. Agena and its family will be the world's first true Quad-Core CPU and you can bet your nutsack they will have hell of alot of advanced tech built into them. Intel's current Quad-Cores are just 2 x 65nm C2Ds stuck together and so Penryn / Agena is set to be a much wiser purchase. Intel plans to begin 45nm mass production in H2 2007 and AMD six to eight months later...

Penryn/Agena will require new boards so be wise when considering your upgrade. What you buy now will be deemed un-upgradable (CPU wise) by the time Fighter OPS is out... :wink2:

I have decided to hold out till mid 2008 before I upgrade coz the system you see in my Sig will last me till then while I drool at quite a few goodies that are comin in 2008. The Opteron 165 is Dual-Core Server Processor :evils:

FO should be out by Q2/Q3 2007...This is speculation on your part? The last time I checked, there is not even an estimate in regards to a release date.

Oh yea... didn't you know that? I think its actually Q-2 for sure. You might want to double check with one of the big-shots and then let me know 'bout the results...

That is of coz my estimation given that the Alpha Build is in progress. I know squat bout making a SIM but I am sure there is still the Beta and Final Builds, the terrain texturing, the models, the sound files, and all the debugging, optimising and testing from the RL experts in between before its AAA grade and ready for release

How do you know FO is in alpha state?

As you can see he is an Area51 member... it does have it's benefits...:evils:

Anyway doesn't mean his guesstimate on a releasedate is close.

He said the Alpha build is in progress ...... not released.

If you think about it .. the Alpha build has been in progress since day one.

I love you guys clutching at straws lol.
