Howdy, I have been out of the Il-2/Paccy Fighters loop for about 1.5 years. So what is this you are talking about? A hypothetical 1946 addon?
Or does the "46" refer to something else.

OK, thanks. Hypothetical 1946 addon.
This is a little interesting to me since I worked on a 1946 mod for European Air War way back in the day (aircraft selection screens).
Yeah, I recognize all the aircraft in that video (the German ones anyway). They were either under construction at the end of the war or on the drawing boards. For the German side, a few saw limited combat and one or two were in testing when the war concluded. Mostly they were on the drawing boards.

Who knows ... Oleg rules :)
about the 46 Addon is not all the planes hypothetical
Description:
"46" is a full-featured add-on for Il-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles and Pacific Fighters.
The final add-on in the Il-2 series, 46, is a door into alternate history. It focuses on hypothetical battles between the Soviet Union and Germany in the year 1946 where WWII still rages on. Both the VVS and Luftwaffe now have access to advanced jet and rocket fighters, and other revolutionary designs that only existed on the drawing board in 1945.
The player will be able to fly such incredible aircraft as the MiG-9 jet fighter, the predecessor to the famous MiG-15 that gained world-wide fame in the Korean War; the Ta-183, a jet fighter designed by Kurt Tank, the creator of the famous FW-190, and the Arado Ar-234 Blitz, the world’s first operation jet bomber.
The add-on will also include a large historical map of the Kiev region, which will be useful both for the 1946 scenarios, as well as modeling the historical battles for Kiev that took place in 1941 and 1944.

Does not the 46 add on also include Manchuria add on as well (which was originally going to be distributed seperately)? So its not just about the possible 46 aircraft. It also includes more real life flyables and additional maps.

yes, it includes FB, AEP,PF, Manchuria, Pe2 addon and 46..
with oleg's momentum we'll see it in 2010... :D

Hi Rjester,
Check the date of my original post. It was back in 2006. Its been out for some time now.
There is a beta patch out with new map, and a host of other stuff. Well worth it. Can't wait for the full release of the new patch

No problems mate. The onto something good part is the next instalment Oleg is planning on releasing and has kept very very quiet about. And that is BOB.
WHat little has been let out to the audience looks unbeleivable and the level of detail is definitely astonishing. That in itself leads to question of what oleg plans for this upcomming WW2 sim in the future.
If you like props, this is somehting you should keep your eyes on. Though there is no release information available aside from <add in ubiquitous> "Two weeks". I would esitmate this little puppy will be crushing the hottest computers sometime in 2009.
With FO, DCS, BOB, Jet Thunder coming onto the shelves we are (for the first time in a while) going to be spoilt for choice. Finally people are waking up to the fact that there just may be money in this genre !!!

Hi, Bogusheadbox or anyone else up to date, can you guys post the full name of these games (what these acronyms mean)? I have been out of the flight sim loop for a very long time and would like to look more into the upcoming titles. Thanks!

Fo is fighterops. You are here now.
DCS is Digital Combat Simulator. Due for release this year (hopefully) http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/
BOB or BOB:SOW is Battle of Britain - Storm of War (very well kept secret and not released yet. Rumoured to be released end of this year) - check the IL2 pages or simHQ or other places for selected released screenies. Also on the 1946 (latest IL2 addon) there is a video disk with some footage. Basically its going to be IL2 all over again. But starting with early Battle of Britain stuff and progressing through the war. Items have unbeleivable detail. You will be able to man AA and AAA and a myriad of other improvments including some very nice looking terrain.
RRG studios is also making a Korean War conflict based on the new BOB engine. (again very well kept secret and almost no info apart from they are still working on it)
KOTS - Knights of the Sky - is a World War 1 sim supposedly based on the New BOB engine which is supposed to feature Fluid dynamics (very interesting to watch some of the released vids) Again this is still in construction and no idea when it will be released.
JT or Jet Thunder is a Falklands war Sim that is progressing well and looking good. http://www.thunder-works.com/
Those are probably the pick of the Bunch at the moment. Hopefully all will make it to the light of day !
