I've returned home from nursing school in San Antonio, Texas, and I didn't allow any grass to grow under my feet....couldn't stand to look at the bare spot in the basement where my dismanteled sim used to be... one feature of Army life, is that it gives you LOTS of time to think, and I thought of a 1001 improvements over the old SR-1 [see my earlier posts]... with the help of gMAX I designed SP-5 ....havent used one sheet of paper yet during this whole process....lol...

One very helpful feature will be modular construction [the differen colors are seperate units] to make it much easier to upgrade, and instead of a vacuum-driven motion system, this one will be electrically-driven http://www.jimspage.co.nz/intro.htm

So far, this is how far I've come [design started July 14th, laid the keel on August 7th]

oh yes, forgot to state some other improvements:
1) "Cougar "flight controls
2) 19" Samsung LCD monitor magnified to 33" by fresnel lense
3) hinged throttle-mount able to be angled down for helo flight
4) adjustable seat and pedals
5) tactile feedback in seat and structure
6) TrackIR

goonybird,

That thing looks pretty cool.

But have you considered adding four tires to it and driving it around town?

BTW, that's an interesting site (jimspage).

Do you have any ideas yet what the range of motion will be?

threre is a sportstool for training astronauts.... it looks like 3 rings togehter rotating in all axes and the person is fixed with spreaded out arms and legs.

that would be cool to mound ur pit-box in it and to let it rotate with motors in all axes :wink2: an old kids dream of me :red:

yeah that must be a cool thing to have.... but euh ... what do you do when your computer crashes while you're flying inverted ?

Lol I just imagined having to give preflight emergency instructions to all other simmers wishing to try it out :D

eject, in a simulator room , hanging inverted .... I really hope you have a matrass on the ground or a really strong head ... otherwise this really is going to hurt :D

preflight emergency instructions to all other simmers wishing to try it out...

no way let them do, sit down have a beer, and a good laugh when the computer crashes :red:

i got it solid, even from two locations ...wouldn't have a clue what the problem is

i'm planning 3-axis movement--- roll and pitch would be as much as an automotive U-joint would allow... as far as i can "eyeball" it, as i haven't measured it yet, no more than 30 deg or so, and yaw +-10 to 15 degrees

Actually, 30 degrees seems pretty good to me. I don't think I would have expected any more than that on a home built rig. I don't know much about this subject though.

Yeah, the link works totally fine for me.

Imagin this ball mounted into a G-effect training rotation arm of USAF to put the G´s on ur .... and with Fighterops.......
Isn´t it nice to think like a kid hehe

Oh that has crossed my mind so many times lol. just on that tho, Ive always wondered, how fast can those centrifuge bring on the G's? as in if your doing BFM inside a pit (with alot better display that that game below) and you go from 9G to 2g and then up to 4 in a coupple seconds would it be able to keep up?

we get most of our positional information thru our eyes [monitor] the rest of our senses confirm, deny, or confuse the issue...just need enough movement to convince the 'ol eyeball... the U-joint should allow more than enough movement to do this
