I found this detailed site from one lucky guy building an F-15 cockpit simulator from a crash damaged F-15 forward fuselage. Maybe someday he can run FO in it.

Ah, good to see that site back up. It's been down for awhile. I was wondering what happened to that project. It's been the project that has inspired me to look at airframe salvage demils for a few years now.

Hey all. Someone from the Beta Innovations forum pointed me in this direction. I _really_ hope Fighter Ops isn't in the same category as Duke Nuke 'Em 3D. :)

The F-15 is currently shivering out in the cold, however her new house is nearing completion. The new shop is 60x36 with a 14 foot interior height. Plenty of room for the as-yet-to-arrive canopy and stupidly large rear projection screens. :D

This whole moving process has been going on for a year and the end is finally in sight. The building should have the concrete floor poured sometime during the week of 9/25/06. Keep your fingers crossed. The people building the shop can't seem to work more than 4 or 5 hours a day. It's driving me up the wall. :(

I haven't been idle on the cockpit front however. I've been collecting parts like crazy over the past year. Amazingly enough, I've got all but four of the side console panels. They're all original except the engine start panel I made a few years ago. I even managed to get a post-MSIP flight grip. That wasn't a cheap part lemme tell ya. ;)

After the concrete is cured, then the eletrician will come in and install the panels. After that I'll be able to start moving into the new shop. I'm really looking forward to getting back to work on it.

Gene,

I just moved my A-7D from San Diego to Sioux City IA. I feel for ya dude I am in New Jersey working on a contract and I am wishing that I was home working on her.

Mine in a single car garage but soon to be in one like yours. :)

Take care buddy and I will call in the future.

Iowa?! WTF dude? Did you just have a need to say, "No, I only work in space, I live in Iowa." to some hot chick? *rofl* (...and if you're not a Star Trek geek, you'll _never_ get that joke :D)

Talk about a scenery change! How has the restoration been going? I know last time we spoke you were just getting started on it.

I had my voice # ported to a cell phone after the move so you can reach me at the same #.

On a nearly related note, would the gent that did the artwork for your cockpit be interested in doing Shrimp Boat nose art for mine? :) (Read the story on the website - it explains the Shrimp Boat thing) I had this mental picture of a pissed off F-15 with a pair of drag net derricks sprouting from the back of the airframe about where the speed brake was. :)

ttyl!

Dale is a great guy and I am sure he would be interested. Let me introduce you two.

Send me an email dlisle@processmcDOTcom with your latest contact and email and I will get it to him.

Why Iowa? I wanted to have money left over after I cashed my paychecks.

Plus my bird was always going to be an Iowa ANG bird from Sioux City.

Project status is about 85% done collecting everything and 10% rebuilding. Need to have a few months to dedicate to her and not have to travel.

Talk to you soon.

hey gene,
Im starting to start a hornet pit myself...just curious where you got that grip from? (assuming its a real one, not a mold or anything) and where you get all your parts/panels from?
Good to have ya round, will be freakin rad when your pit has Fighter Ops under the hood ;)

It's a real grip allright. The poor thing has been pretty abused, but I've got the parts to rebuild it and the canon plug in the base doesn't have any bent pins.
I found the grip on eBay, where I get the majority of my parts.

The recent batch of goodies has been coming out of Israel. I got a really rough VHF radio panel from there last week. I'll strip it down and replace the edge-lit panel and all the knobs. It'll be one of those kit-bash panels where you salvage 3 corpses to get one monster. :)

As to Fighter Ops, well we'll see. :)

Thanks Cobra. I threw a few nickels at the Area 51 site as well just to see what you sneaky types are up to. *laughs*

HA! Just read your story, Geneb! Shrimp Boat, hillarious, man, if my pilots did that (referring to the shrimp), I'd be really ticked. And yes sometimes they DID do stupid things, as I'm sure we all did.

I had the unfortunate experience to crew on a KC-135R with the tail number 0069 when I was in the AF years ago. You can imagine what all the crew chief's called my plane, it was embarrassing :red: I won't explain it for those that can't figure it out. :nono: Yes the Boeing KC's were great jets, and I loved crewing them! Despite some tail numbers.

I did some squadron nose art for the lead birds at Fairchild AFB - you can see my stuff here: http://www.clubhyper.com/reference/kc135rartdj_1.htm

I also did some art for buddy crew chiefs by designing logo's for the NAV station - there was a large table at the NAV station (still is...I think). So I'd design a few pieces here and there before my term was up. And I also airbrushed a huge conference table for a squadron, that was a cool project.

Anyhoo, I gotta come up with art for Shrimp Boat, that would be a cool challenge. But I gotta finish some other major freelance work.

I don't airbrush anymore like I used to, and I'm totally digital now, so I design stuff in Photoshop CS2 and Illustrator CS2.

P.S. I don't design pinups, that's just my rules. :wink2:

Cheers!

Great looking stuff! A friend of mine did some nose art on a mudhen or two a few years ago. I think he's finally done playing IP in smurf jets and is going back to the mudhen, which will make him a lot happier I think. :)

There's no rush on this for sure. Digital is fine as it would lend it self to me farming it out to a decal shop so I can put it on the roll-up door of the shop. :)

Thanks!
