S~!

Unfortunatey the .sfs files for IL2 series have been cracked by some russian hackers who are said to be close to the dev team. Got names but leaving them out.

This is a very sad day for fans of this series as its online play WAS the defacto standard for many years. Sadly the developer spent too much time trying to appease noobs with 'fantasy' birds and not enough time on the core code of the series. Many a discussion was had (by me) with people in the inner circles of that series and the beta test team. For me the lesson here is that fidelity is more important than trying to appease the largest cross section of gamers. We are SIMMERS. So lets try to focus on that.

I hope the developers of F.O. will take this lesson to heart and have some vigorous internal debate on what priorities will be. I have faith that the same mistakes that Russian developers seem to continually make will not happen with this sim.

NightHawk your post indicates to me that you don't have a great deal of knowledge regarding flight sims in general and the significance of hacked flight models in particular ; vie za vie their extremely negative effects on the multiplayer environment ........

My first paragraph answers your first question and my second paragraph indicates my feelings on your last question and your whole post in general.

Y'all have a nice day now you heah :wink2:

Theres two ways to interpret this. Some people (Mainly those at the infamous ubi-zoo who love air-quake) will probably use the editing ability to put 105mm howitzers on a ME-262 that has the turn radius of a swallow and the speed of the space shuttle.

Then there is the other side, the guys who love the realism servers such as ZekeVsWildcat who would use it to fix problems that Oleg refuses to fix (Or wants to make it so the fix needs to be paid for to get). If used by the right people, and with an anti-cheat system in place, groups could fix the asymetrical .50 caliber recoil problem (The right wing of navy aircraft tends to have more recoil than the left, causing it to wobble in game. This does not occur in reality). The dive compression issue of the P-38 would also be fixed to allow the P-38 to accurately use its dive advantage (Trying to do historically accurate dive tactics in the current version of the P-38 in IL2 causes it to lock up and head in the ground/ocean, whereas the real P-38 could recover from such a dive).

Ok all sorted over PM, certainly issues like this with sims we love and spend a lot of time with can lead to heated emotions, when you couple that with a few misunderstandings things can get out of hand quickly. Kudos to Protos for being open to looking at it from the other side and sorting this out professionally via PM.

It should be said in fairness too though that the comment made by Nighthawk questioning whether Protos is taking a shot at a great sim didn't help matters. If you didn't understand the depth of the problem he was highlighting best to ask the question and wait for the answer before questioning the persons motives.

Anyhow, lessons learned, time to move on.

- EDIT having thought about this, I'm going to edit this thread remove the extra posts, and re-instate the post made by Protos minus the offending line, also I'll remove the line from Nighthawks post questioning the motives behind the thread

Bugger me. I hate it when i miss a hissy fit.

Ohh well.

I am involved in an online squad for PF, and it is a shame that this COULD lead to online problems regarding cheaters.

But it shouldn't bother us too much as we spend more time in co-ops.

I just hope this hasn't caused a delay to the latest expansion which was due about now.

No it will not affect 4.06 as the developers have decided to NOT address this exploit until 4.07 if at all.

I personally feel that if you are going to charge for more addons that you are then honor bound to to your customers to deliver the fixes to known cheats along with the content you are trying to sell.

Many pilots left the series after the 4.05 patch, as the community was split with the boontybox scandal and many more will abandon it at 4.06. IL2 was magnificent and will be the standard by which WWII sims are judged. However its code is very very old. Its engine is ancient. FM,DM and GM and non modular ect.......... The series is winding down now and effort is now concentrated on B.O.B.

That is as it should be.

New sim products are on the horizon and that is exciting for lovers of our genre. I am particularly interested in some new projects which will be using the microsoft FS X engine for new combat flight sims. Stay tuned :evils:

And lest we forget what promises to be the King of all sims. Fighter Ops.

Good times.
