USAF Pilot Training: Road to the ThunderBirds Announced [May 04, 2006, 10:57 pm ET]
No blowing things up, so not of interest to me really, but it sounds kind of like what FO has planned for their first release though eh? It will be interesting to see what it looks like and what the price point will be. Who said flightsims were dead?!?!

It sounds interestin, but I don't think it will compete with FO too much, as you can't really use all the training you get in combat.

We will wait and see, but it seems based on their prior releases that it will not be a Hi Fi type sim...more of a arcade style, consumer market sim.

well, it's officially licensed by the US Air Force.
"The Air Force has also offered to provide additional technical data, facts, and support to make the USAF Pilot Training: Road to the ThunderBirds a very accurate simulation and presentation of real United States Air Force Pilot Training"
And yeah if FO ever gets to the point of combat it will pass this sim by no doubt, but when will that be? 2009?

I cannot speak for the dev team but I believe the combat modules will be released shortly after the training modules which are estemated to be released Q4 06 or Q1 07 I imagine (pure guess) that we will be sitting in our sin F-16s (or 15s or A-10s) by winter of 07.

When I first read this announcement I thought it was XSI working with USAF, and came to these forums to check, but clearly thats not the case. The training program thing which has never really been done to any depth before is going to be done in TBirds and FO.
TBirds will clearly be first to market. Though we will have to wait and see which is best. Ultimately as a consumer, more choice is better, and I guess if XSI get to check out TBirds, they may be able to avoid their mistakes and improve upon what TBirds has.
Interesting times... two new flightsims being devved at once. I never thought it would happen again.

Officially, the USAF hasnt come out and directly endorsed XSI, but there are several Military pilots on the team however. (Stiffler, Haole to name a few...)

We are not officially licensed by the USAF at this time, but we do have the support of the USAF Air Force public affairs Entertainment Liaison Office, they currently provide us with a project officer and assistance and access to Air Force assets.
