Any one fancy building one of these?

Is there any place to get the measurments for these aircraft on the net, or is it all really hard to obtain.

I'm interested in the T-6 too. Pondering working for Raytheon once I finish my Mechanical Engineering Technology degree. I live in Wichita, KS and the Raytheon plant is just across town. Everyone has F-16 simpits, but it might be fun to do something less common and do a T-6. Considering how FO is going to be one of the next popular fighter sims and it will cover the T-6 in detail, it sounds like fun. :thumb:

Looking at that first pic it looks like you could get away with putting a 17" or 19" LCD screen behind the front panel and go digital glass cockpit on the gauges. Sounds a ton easier going glass than interfacing sim mechanical gauges. Does the T-6 only have the front panel or does it also have left and right side panels like the F-16?

it sure is a nice airplane, and It would be a cool (differant) pit to built, but to get mesurements you'd need to sell you left nut. Its the same for everyting unless its the Viper of which there is a mass of info...Ive looked for F-15 info a while ago and now that I want to build a hornet pit I cant find infor that either...

With me being in Wichita, I'm wondering if I couldn't just dig around for people with the info. Maybe another idea is to ask the people who are modeling the cockpit here in-game for the info. I know they have to be relatively close to accurate to get it to look right.

Another out in left field idea, FO people could contact Raytheon PR and inquire. If I had about 20 minutes with a ruler and my digital camera, we could have all the info needed. It's not like I would have any chance, but IMHO FO staff might be able to swing it as a legitimate thing with their PR.

Looking at the above pictures, it would be easy to get pretty close to the dimensions of the panel if I knew the dimensions of a few parts in it. I could use that as a scale to work out the measurements for the rest. I work in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop all day, so that would be a no brainer for me.

According to this PDF, the 3ATI glass instrument displays are 3.175"x3.175" outer benzel with 2.27"x2.27" viewable area. I can use that as a scale for the rest. I'll see what I can whip up once I get back from Chicago this weekend.

The T-6B looks like it would probably be more fun project to make a simpit. The T-6B looks to be more of a combat aircraft than the T-6A.

hmm good pics thorne thanks, a couple of TFT's and perhaps some FI instruments would sort this entire thing out :thumb:

How much work is going into the first release in terms of cockpit compatibility?
Will you be able to interface switches, lights etc?

I am starting to think that if FO is easily configured then this entire thing would not cost to much to build:shades:

Oh new pic hmm a HUD:hhmmm thats a good point

I would assume FO would like to cater to the simpits crowd with full data output for nothing else but the fact that the simpit websites would be free advertising for the game when shown interfaced with their cockpits. Cool projects with eye candy go a long way on selling stuff, even if the guy buying isn't intending to make a simpit himself.

The existence of this sub-forum alone says something about their intent.

Yeah i am sure they will kick ass as always with going a step further than anyone else. Not having to source software and hardware from 5 different companys would be a real help in terms of pit building.

What do you think the best method of making the glass cockpit case type things from the first pic you posted would be?

The dimensions look pretty awkward. The T-6A would definitely have to drive more LCDs than the T-6B project might. Definitely 1 17" or 19" with some smaller one(s) to catch the ones that are on the sides. The way they stagger those displays makes for a headache in the T-6A. Without getting a grasp on that front panel size it's hard to tell. Once I get back from Chicago I'll try and work out the dimensions in Illustrator and post an editable PDF of it to help. Ug, gotta drive for 10 hours today to get to my brother's place.

Yeah i think i would probably use steam gauges for the more displaced instruments. The T6 B is nice but i like a bit of old school crazy mix up, to give it some... well i don't know what actually i just like lots of stuff in the pit

A drive that long would have me run off the end of my country :red:

I assume you work with them Apollo, i don't know what AFBs fly what aircraft in the US lol :red:

lol

I'm here at ENJJPT. We'll be the last base to convert to the T-6. Heck, the pilot class that started before mine will be the first class to even get the T-38C, we'll be the second, obviously. Even then, our jets will lack the PMP engine mod for awhile.

I always had the nastalgia for the old dog whistle. It's sad that the very airplanes I fly will find their way to a boneyard in just a couple years.

I am sorry to hear that you will lose the ac Apollo, i was sorry to see the T67C Firefly end its service with the RAF as an EFT ac a few years ago, what a lovely girl  Lucky for me i got a flight in one at the last graduation day

Any info you may have on the T-6 will be very handy, as you can see thorne and I are thinking of making pits for the first release of FO:beer:
It would be really great to get any persons with proffesional knowlage of the jet to help:thumb:

I wish you the very best luck with the training:smile:

Wow, nice pic. I can do most of my Illustrator layout to size with that pic once scaled. I'm still in Chicago till Wednesday or Thursday. Should be back soon enough and see what I can come up with as far as measurements.

The T-6 uses the Martin-Baker Mk16xl seat front and rear

Does anyone know where to get the best sort of CRT\TFT? I have been looking but i haven't found a good supply yet.

ahh I thought it was a MB seat. I was going to suggest that for those interested I have been drwawing up plans for the MB MK-10 and MK-14 seats (the NACES MK-14 is based on the same seat as the MK-10 with differant saub systems...) for my planed F/A-18 pit But the MK-16 Is quite differant, sorry.

Thanks for the offer, i think if i do come to build this thing i will probably not go to nuts about the type of seat or size of certain bits and bobs, i would build it just to gain some experianceof pit building and get the most out of FO's functions and capability.

Thanks again good luck with your project:bigsmile:

yeah I flew the F/A-18 sim at williamtown, but I was to young to know anything about specifics of it, so i just did a few landings and stuff, I flew at mach 1.4 or something under the sydney harbour bridge then came round for a guns run on it thats about it...Wish I could go out there again.
