View Full Version : Falcon Mission Screenies
ITS CRAPPY OVER CROATIA:
Just flew a mission over NW Croatia in the worst weather i've ever experienced in Falcon. Fog, snow, rain, thunder and lightning storms! It was horrible!
You may have to tilt your monitor to make some of these out through the fog.
1. Off to ruin someones day. Loaded with CBUs and Rockeyes.

2. CBUs away - it sucks to be infantry.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/DAZLER/Falcon/2006-01-29_18_49_24.jpg
3. Show-down with the AAA - notice that the bast*rds are shooting at me! Fortunately my wingie was Chuck Norris so the shells just dodged harmlessly behind. Rockeyes!
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/DAZLER/Falcon/2006-01-29_18_56_48.jpg
4. RTB (Chuck was so mad we didn't get an opportunity to use our AIM9s)
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/DAZLER/Falcon/2006-01-29_12_48_46.jpg
5. And ......touchdown. Not looking forward to the debrief. I'd be amazed if i hit anything.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/DAZLER/Falcon/2006-01-29_19_23_10.jpg
Amazingly at the debrief i found that i managed to destroy 10 targets - consisting of poor infantry guys, and AAA pieces. I didn't think i'd be able to hit anything smaller than an airstrip in those conditions.
Anyone else got any Falcon mission pics?
Day 17 of my Balkans Campaign. All of Bosnia, and all except the N/E of Croatia have been liberated. FRY have been pushed back to their borders and NATO has made a large incursion into Montenegro.
I've transferred from my Harrier Squadron in Slovenia and am now flying F.3s out of Italy. This was a sweep mission over Montenegro - didn't think there would be much action as most of FRYs airforce has been destroyed.
Found a group of An24s and J22s. Not much fun in that. Wingie and I hacked them to pieces with AMRAAMS.

Dude - consider your wings clipped!
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/DAZLER/Falcon/2006-02-04_14_37_28.jpg
Unfortunately my wingie decided to go chasing after everything that moved and paid the price with an SA6 up his ass.
On the way back to base I saw a group of F-14s going at it with some Mig21s and G4s over the Adriatic. Mav and Iceman looked as though they could do with some help with a G4. (Man, I thought these guys had been to Top Gun!)
Mav - I'm outta missiles, going to guns
I've got ya covered dude!

Go on dude - Nail Him!

Mav - Guns,Guns,Guns
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/DAZLER/Falcon/2006-02-07_17_05_48.jpg
Mav - FOXTROT! I'm Winchester. Maverick Disengaging.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/DAZLER/Falcon/2006-02-07_17_07_51.jpg
Mav - Batfink, he's all yours.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/DAZLER/Falcon/2006-02-07_17_13_04.jpg
Bastard! I'm gonna overshoot!

Need to bleed off some speed

While i was regaining position, Iceman came in with guns.

He must have got a hit - the Bandits smoking
I've got tone! FOX2!

Good Hit! Yee Haa - GREAT BALLS OF FIRE!
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/DAZLER/Falcon/2006-02-07_17_24_10.jpg
Afterwards Iceman had a right go at Mav. Told him he was Dangerous for going in alone. Said it was just lucky Batfink was around.
Told me I could be his Wing Man anytime though. He says when we get some R&R we should go shower, dry off and play some volley together.
Errrrrrrr.....OK Ice. Don't call me, I'll call you. Laters dude.

You were even more amazed when you discovered that all 10 targets were on your side. :jester:
HeeHee:bigsmile:
I try to leave the Blue on Blue to my AI wingies. A few missions back i heard this over the air.
"I'm on your side Jackass!!" followed by..."Oh man you're gonna pay for that."
I'd never heard that in Falcon before. It turned out my wingie had engaged an F18 and downed it with 2 AIM9s and then guns!
I may end up getting hauled up infront of the War Crimes Tribunal though. Apparently using cluster bombs over civilian population centres is frowned upon.

I've had my fair share of blowing up friendlies. I always felt that they deserved it so I never felt bad about it.

Was a little disconcerting hearing my F-15 Escort calling "Cowabunga" over the radio inbound to target...who's flying that thing..Bart Simpson?
Great! I feel so much safer now:bigeyes:
hahahaha! Im not a Falcon flyer but i like hearing your stories and seeing your screenshots! Keep em coming, ill think of something for lock on :)

Hmmmm
I was really considering Falcon, but the screenshots don't impress me. In real fog, there is some noticeable decrease in...how should I say it?...
Visibility. Not just some grey'd out transparency film over the view. In the screenshots above, You can see objects in the far distance just as much as close up objects, very unrealistic.

I'm sure Falcon is VERY good in it's flight dynamics, realism to combat situations, etc... but I guess I'm a visual perfectionist. With the awesome graphic cards out now there are tons of game that enable a realistic fog.
Even Battlefield 2 and Americas Army show better fog.
I would have expected more from the latest Falcon. :nono:
I've seen better aircraft on FS2004 too.
I hope that FighterOps will take this into account and the graphics will blow Falcon out of the water, seriously. Looking at FO's screens, I'm very optimistic that it will!

Sorry to be a party pooper :red:
I do love the stories though!! :)
I'm looking for a top-o-the-line fighter combat sim, I'll wait till FO comes out!!
:bounce:

A while back me and some of the guys in Airwolves did a mission in fog and I wound up in a furball with Mig29s at low level. What you can't see in most screenshots is that the objects do disappear in the fog at low level. And in low cloud it was quite a challenge to nail the Mig with guns. So far the best fog I've seen is in lockon, absolute white out and even better if you see it as the suns rising. Still AF is a good sim, worth a try, it'll keep you buisy until the end of the year.

:thumb: You have to remember that Falcon 4.0 was first released in 1999 (IIRC). When you name games like FS2004 or Battlefield 2, you are speaking of much newer games. I am SURE Fighter Ops will blow Falcon out of the water in terms of graphics. That being said, the dynamic campaign in Falcon 4 still make it the best combat sim to date (IMHO).
Hi All-Fired-Up,
Yes, you're right. Allied Force doesn't model fog and bad weather particularly well and that is -- despite the many impovements to the graphics engine -- is a consequence of a non DX9 engine. However, our next full commercial release, featuring DX9+, will be very different ;)

LOL do you always have to keep us in suspense? Just my 2 cent...Falcon's realism + Lomac's graphics = :bounce: :thumb:  :ylsuper:
Or in other words it would be like a glimps of Fighter Ops...will the nect commercial release be Falcon 5.0?

Well... remember that the Falcon code dates to before 1998. Back when Glide was actually on videocards.
Why do you state that you need dx9 on the system specs. on the box, if all you are using is dx7. Misleading.

Don't get me wrong, I do like Falcon, I played Falcon AT waaaaay back in 1989, I don't know if it's the same line, I think it is.
Rember this one? :thumb:
I guess I was looking at the screenshots and hoping for more advancement on the graphics, and modding and skinning the aircraft other than keeping it default makes these sims look sweet!
Also, I think we are seeing the limits of 32 bit technology. I hope that everyone will jump to 64 bit games for the PC's once the PC 64 bits are popular, and 32 bit is history. I think that's why it seems that a lot of people are blown away with the Xbox 360 graphics.

Awwww yeah...I remember Falcon AT (or 2.0 if you prefer) of course I ran it on a Tandy and only had the CGA graphics (I think the 4 colors were pink, white, black, and green) Boy was I happy when I got that 386DX with the EGA and VGA graphics capability. Made Falcon 3.0 look like real life...

personally im not blown away by the xbox 360's graphics they look the same as many game son my computer... god bless the 6800Ultra
Hey All fired up, those screenshots bring back some memories.....Falcon on the Amiga...those were the days.
Re my Falcon AF Mission screenies - Nighthawk is right, i was flying a/c that aren't properly modelled in the sim. The F-16 looks a lot better. I posted those pics more for the stories behind them rather than their graphical quality. I totally agree with you though - there is no way Falcon will be winning any beauty contests. The graphics are very outdated.
Thats partly why i decided to get LOMAC..........only to then wipe it off my HD a week later because for me it just couldn't compare to Falcon in other ways.
Hopefully FO and "Falcon 5" will give us the best of both worlds.:thumb:
