Is terrain following radar in Lock-on Flaming cliffs?I think for A-10, Su-25T etc. is very important thing because A-10's, Su-25's are flying at low alt.
No there is no such thing in lock on FC. And it wouldnt be accurate anyways. None of the aircraft flyable have a terrain following radar. The A-10 has NO radar at all. The F-15C Has an A2A Radar and does not have such autopilot capabilities either. The few aircraft that have it are the F-15E, F-111 and the PA200 Tornado.
There is terrain avoidance autopilot Alt 5 to activate it
There are several autopilot modes in lockon
altitude hold Alt 1 or h
altitude and roll Alt 2
level flight alt 3
baro hold alt 4
radar alt hold alt 5
route following Alt 6 or A
Auto pilot overide Alt `
Auto pilot disengage Alt 9
For SU25T auto pilot ingress 7, lock target push A
that still is unrealistic with that terrain avoidance
You would have to ask ED about that one, those are the modes that the SU25T probably has in real life.
not sure how it works in real life but in Lock-On the terrain avoidance mode just trys to hold a constant Radio Altimeter height. Only problem is there is a little bit of lag so if the ground raises fairly quickly you can lose a good couple of hundred feet as it pitches up ... i definately wouldnt be using it in hill terrain as it just isnt good enough for that.
the other problem of course is that it is using the rad alt which only looks directly below the aircraft. should you have say a shear cliff face it will fly you straight into it as it isnt looking at what is ahead of the aircrafts flight path .. only what is below!
