View Full Version : Steerpoint Proximity Requirement?

Just a question hopefully someone can help me with. Searched but no luck.

Upon returning form a successful mission to destroy a bridge, a was awarded a court martial for Deriliction of Duty - never arrived at steerpoint!

I used 2 mavericks from about 10 miles out then got the hell out of dodge. They can't seriously expect you to fly over the target zone when it's not necessary, just so ther game knows that you actually showed up. The bridge didn't blow itself up!

Anyone know how close you have to get to record an arrival at a STP?, or how to solve this little problem?

Report this on the Frugalsworld F4AF forum mate, definitely seems like a bug that needs fixing. The Lead Pursuit devs watch that forum for bug reports but I'm not sure they watch this one.

Vamp the only way you can get a Court Martial IIRC is if you have a friendly fire incident (or fly you jet into a friendly object ).

Was the bridge close to the FEBA? It is possible your ground forces have captured the bridge during your ingress prior to you smacking the target, giving you a friendly fire incident. The never arrived at steepoint message may be just a coincident.

No the court martial was for Deriliction of Duty, due to the fact I never arrived at the target, not for friendly fire (I think). The debrief screen also had a 'never arrived' for TOT, Still increased my logbook rating after the mission though so got me beat??

But hey you could be right about friendly fire - anything is possible in F4.

Was this mission in Korea near the DMZ? I had this happen to me. By the time I got to the bridge it was captured by friendlies. I forgot to make sure it was still an enemy target.

Yea it was in the Korea 2005 campaign. I guess that must be the only reason then - makes sense to me, we seemed to be advancing fairly fast.

That leads me to the next question - how can you tell it has been captured by friendly forces as you are looking in the MFD about to send Mr Maverick over for a cup of suger?
Only way I can think of is get close enuf to padlock it and see if it padlocks blue or red - but that kinda defeats the point of standoff Mav attack.

(BTW I don't usually need to destroy bridges from a long way away :red: - I was just testing out Maverick employment using precision steerpoints, which work really well I must say)

Yea cheers I might try that out - haven't used Awacs for ground attack to date.

I still would like to know how close you need to get to a STP/TGT to record an 'arrival' - as I like a standoff attack like Mav of DTOS but I am sure it impacts on my mission success/rating if it records that I never arrived at the target.

Cheers Bro - *SNAP* I just downloaded that yesterday actually as I use low-level ingress/egress and perform offset CCIP pop-up attacks when I have iron bombs. Only way to beat those SA-6's (had 3 fired at me the other day - no hits!), and it's more fun IMHO - workin on some straight in low-level loft bombing using precision STP and CCRP at the mo so I don't even need to straighten out and sight up the target.

Was just trying some long range Mav attacks for a change and - hey no arrival at TGT!

P.S. I have the converted the Pop-Up Tutorial .doc to a PDF file too if anyone would like it - as most of the pics don't show up in my MS Word when viewing it, only in print preview.

No its extra information for making a precise Popup attack, you can add these settings while your INS is aligning or whilst enroute. It gives the enemy very little time to acquire you while you are on the ingress, actually you're supposed to use more than 1 aircraft and attack from different angles.e.g runways or power plants. Its what the Israelis probably used when they hit the Iraqi nuclear power plant.

It's quite easy to know if the target is friendly - Just lock up the bridge you wanted to bomb on radar, press q "AWACS" and then 2 "Declare" and they'll let you know if the ground target is friendly or hostile ! (Same procedure as for aircraft)

Sweet cheers for that, will do :thumb: - as I said it never occured to me that Awacs keep track of ground targets as well. Is this true to real Awacs operations?

There is an Excel spreadsheet Pop-up calculator as well that goes with the file SUBS17 posted up at Leadpursuit D/L section too.
