(cross posted on SimHQ and Frugals)

Hi all,

Tried my first MP game with a friend tonight. He hosted the game, and I connected in. I could see the server and the game, the connection went smooth (better than SP3 or 4). Planned the mission, but upon entering the 3d world (he was lead, i was 2), his jet did not move as he was taxiing and taking off. The animations worked (afterburner and gear up), but he remained on the taxiiway. In HIS 3d world, he was flying - in mine, he was not. I taxiied to take off myself, and my jet went through his.

We are both on broadband (i'm cable, he's adsl), and the connection speeds were 128 kb (i think). Both running the 1.03 patch. I have tried switching off my firewall (ZoneAlarm), but that did not make a difference.

I am looking for any thoughts, ideas, suggestions, miracles, comments, etc ......

Thanks,

You have a network problem, half the data is being blocked by something. Check that your firewall, router port forwarding are setup and disable anti spyware.

That's a fairly common bug that happens from time to time in all versions of Falcon. Did you try it again later?

Buckshot,

I was playing with Hazard (Todd) both Thursday night and Sunday night - with no luck. My cable connection is direct to my PC - there's no router or redirector in sight. My anti-spyware is built in to the firewall, which was disabled. The only thing that was adding traffic (from my end) was TeamSpeak, which I was hosting.

My next option is a reinstall ...

I find that if I'm trying to fly with someone online using cable that usually they have to go back to using their router and forward the ports.

SkyHog or Hog here...
I fly F4 AF almost evey Sunday with 185th ... As many as 8 pilots. My upload is set to 128; 1 GB Ram with P4 2.6 ... Zone Alarm always on! (Switch off Zone Alarm Antivirus!).... Works well no problems.

I've narrowed it down to not being a ZoneAlarm problem, as I have made a raw connection from my PC to the cable connection - no firewall, no router, no nothing ....

I think there may be something with my friend's combo modem/router/firewall, as he is unable to isolate any of the components away from the mix...

We are going to try again over the weekend, so wish me luck!

Update ... :bounce:

Just finished 1 hr of successful testing under the following conditions:
- new modem for me, new modem/router for my friend
- version 1.0.5
- setting connection speeds to 128 kps up and down on both PC's
- crossed fingers

not sure what worked in the end, but initially we did a 1:1 dogfight, a simple HAVCAP in a TigerSpirit campaign, and a BARCAP in the same campaign.

The connection was flawless, smooth, and with me hosting both F4:AF and TeamSpeak. We were both VERY impressed. The aim is to run a full campaign to ensure that things continue to go well ..... :thumb:

Thanks to all of the posters that have given the tips and the hints. :thumb:

If you want to fly on a server that is always up and very populated I recommend multiviper's server.
