I love my Ikea Jerker desk. You can add shelves and all sorts of stuff. I got 2 mouse shelves to hold the cougar as well.

Sad to say I can agree with you now. I had to have the MOBO replaced and between trying to get the part here and fixed (it still needed to get sent in for repair) it took about 6 weeks.
As far as Norton I have not had any problems with it at all. Not sure why everyone slams them so much.
Besides I am running most games at max settings and they are still smooth. Doom 3 is the only one that really seems to test it out.

norton is slammed because it is very very easy to get hacked..that and it takes up alot more space then the two leading Anti-virus and firewall makers
trend micro and CA-Ez Armor
that and it's no longer Peter Norton's team doing any of the work..he sold it back in 98 or 99...
the group that does Norton now..are a bunch of ex-microsoft coders...and trust me..they bloat the living hell out of it just like they did windows

I will check those others out as soon as this one expires.
Back on topic. I just got a new Saitek Eclipse keyboard. Great for flying when the room is dark. Keys have the lights shine through. I was looking at the gaming one but the keys were only backlit.
guys, not to hit off a fight but we were originally talking about our own "home pits"
Until i get my own place, i'll have to make do with this:
http://www.eatthepudding.net/misc/desk.jpg
With that setup you could probably use the bullseye setup that the panthers made.
Nice Pit GI_Jew! I have printed out the crimean and caucasian maps and also the airport charts. Im gonna use my real kneepad from sailplane flying to add some realism, hope to improve the gaming with that, i havent had the money to buy myself a cougar (yet) and ill try to invest into a track ir sometime soon!

I agree with that, i want one of those mfds!
Hey,
wolfstone is using the Quickshot Masterpilot...
here is a link http://www.quickshot.com/game_controllers/mp98value.html
Unfortunately it is not produced anymore. I was lucky to get one on ebay like 5 years ago. As soon as FO comes out, I will build my own MFDs and ICP. Probably a complete Pit of the Viper

Here ye go

This is not the actual setup I have now, there's a few diffrences, I'll have to go find the camera later.
I purchased a case yeasterday because I wanted to get rid of the dust trouble with the one in the picture, it was also too small and didn't have very good cooling, so I had to use that big white fan sometimes.
But this is the case I have now: Only $20 after rebate and discount at CompUSA http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811171073
The hole in the side is not a fan, but I drilled it for a 120mm and it turned out to work and look great. Ending up with a total of 5 fans in the case, counting the CPU and PSU, the average temperature for the CPU is around 25C, something I never was able to reach before.
I also took out one of the keyboards to use the desk space, unfortunately you can't have diffrent keys per keyboard.
If you want a bigger picture, use this link: http://vietcong2.lobogames.com/modules/coppermine/albums/userpics/10082/dscf0975.jpg

:wink2:
Hi wipsnake,
have a look at this article

Here is the screensaver, I got it because it's the most authentic of them all and it has several other functions too.

But just see this as a foot note, don't mean to interrupt the MFD topic.

Actually, I think the custom MFDs and other keypads are pretty nice all things considering. What are you using to interface those? Also, I'm interested in how those were made. Is this a kit, or are they custom? Some of the purchasable kits have me hopping mad with their price schemes. I'm looking for options that are not insane for pricing. :)
This is my setup (I took a quick pic with my cell phone, so quality of the picture isn't ideal...but you get the idea :) )

Hi Thanks for the interest these are custom made mfd's. There made out of 1/4"
mfd core plywood the back is routed out to accept the clear plastic cover and picture of the mfd. The inside and outside edge of the front is beveled to look like the real MFD. The swithes are momentary push buttons (Jamco electronics). The top board is a ICP, center board is a comm's wingman, element, flight, tanker, tower, and awac's commands. Small board to left is master caution, master arm on-safe-sim, and lazer on-off, bottom center board is autopilot. All switches are run through X-keys usb version. I've had several people interested in these I guess if I polished them up I could sell a few. Anyway that's it any questions let me know. Dave

Looks pretty cool for a custom setup. That gives me some leads on how to do mine I guess. You might really look into building a limited number and see how they sell. As I said earlier, the options out there atm are ungodly limited and expensive. Even if you only make a few a month I'd bet they'd sell. my largest problem is finding a cost effective LCD or OLED screen that would fit a project like that. I hear PS One screens have been used before, or something similar to that via salvaging it out of other things. My main priority is to find and use the cheapest parts that still look right to do it. IRL I'm a print media production artist, so the blueprint layout and design in Adobe Illustrator for the project would be a no-brainer for me. My largest stumbling block is the cutting/dremmel work and learning a bit of basic electronics and woodworking.

I assume fighter opps will provide a way to undock or output the mfd's somehow so one could use small tft screens for the mfd's. I always wonder why the combat sim dev's never gave any flexablity to do things like external mfd's. Microsoft's flight sim is one example how things can be done not that its the best solution, but its better than nothing. When it comes to fabricating the parts one could always sub this part out to someone with a cnc router or mill. I did mine using a template with a router guide that followed the template not a bad solution , but somewhat slow. Dave

Delta_Kilo... that is almost exactly what I want to do with my own desk. I have been looking into putting together two MFD's and an ICP (using an x-keys usb matrix board) but then I was wondering what to do with the rest of the 128 inputs... You, sir, have pointed in the exact direction. Thank you very, very much. I hope you don't mind if I ask you a few questions from time to time.
