Bump on ThirdELTPoznan's request for skins - anyone help with some links please?
Doesnt that Violate the EULA? I know thats what I and OpenSkins were told...

Oh really, wasn't aware of that cheers Zaggy. Probably why I am having such a hard time finding any :wink2: There seem to be heaps for earlier versions of F4,some great ones by yourself on the Openskin site - I guess they would work. Just can't seem to find any .dds files in Lead Pursuit directory so I guess they changed the format - or I just can't find them!
Just need to do something about the skin with regard to high res or something , I can't use any Antialiasing due to the curser dissappearing in the 1600x1200 cockpit problem. Shame too as the model does look better with AA enabled. Apparently you can go back to an earlier nVidia driver, but like to keep up to date with the latest display drivers.
Nah, LP's build IMHO, in many ways is a backward step... they dont use .DDS files... theyve gone back to some manner of bitmap format. But yeah, as much POTENTIAL as the LP release has, again IMHO, LP have screwed over the community. Those ppl used to be 'US'. Those guys were the first guys to start working on Falcon (probably breaking the original F4 EULA) but now they want everyone else to stop what they started.... Im stopping now, before i start ranting...
At least F4 is now more playable and stable online.

Thats it!! For what I need ".dds" files when FalconAF is running better without them?!?

Indeed, and IMHO it is looking crappier without them too. Would be alright to prohibit skinners modding the skins if they looked half decent, and had a little imagination. But hey they look crap on my computer without any AA.
And they seriously need to fix the 1600 x 1200 AA problem! - in this day and age not being able to actually use AA because it makes the 2D cockpit unusable is just not good enough when pretty much everyone has a GPU card that can handle AA easily, and it would sure help to improve the display of the models.
I mean just look at the mission loading pic - you telling me that is the best res pic they could find/use?
But hey the avionics resemble the F-16 pretty well and the sim it's self is pretty good :thumb:
You can submit skins and 3d models to LP and I'm sure they might add them in. So far some good stuff has been added to AF since its release, good to see they are looking into the refuelling problem. Might help with those 4 hour BARCAPs.
The problem is SUBS, they want the skins in an unlayered format with reference material that was used. Once you give them that they may include it or not but either way it is theirs for the keeping or.......... for use in the future. :wink2: Plus you get to do all the reference/background digging and then hand it to them for free.
To keep a quality skin unlayered is an absolute nightmare. You can group layers in to like folders for easier managing but it is still totally unweildy. Ask Zaggy how many layers are needed to make a half decent skin. But after all that work, which more than likely something the artist wants people in the community to have, you may never see it in AF. You lose that choice and so do the people flying AF. Very poor modding policy IMHO.
I also feel that LP are trying to get the community to do the grunt work that makes all these mods so hard. Then they will take the cream and discard the rest.....or what they perceive to be the cream. Completely within their right. But it does not appear that many are rushing out to help out. It may very well be that there is. We will see.
When you combine this with facts that Zaggy stated earlier, it very difficult to become motivated. Why upgrade a sim that does not keep up with what is out there and what would have been out there? People just move on.
My 2 Cents.
Cheers.
I wasn't aware of the layer policy by LP:mad: , maybe one day they'll change the setup so we can add skins. I think its mainly to do with stability as far as anything goes though since there are so many mods for F4. At least they are allowing them to be submitted. So far they haven't asked for more money for enhancements which is good.
Well you are a far more optimistic than me. I feel there is another reason their policy is so stringent. They have already proven that they are not afraid to use other people's work without asking. This is mostly a stab at PR recovery after they fell out of the gate. Anyway, so be it.
Here is a link to the .pdf for the mod policy.

I think the current stance by LP on skins is totally unreasonable. Skinning has probably been the biggest user developed Mod section of Falcon. It makes no difference what so ever to stability, enhances the look of the game and allows the user to customise the sim to suit their taste. By allowing community sites to host their work it provides a greater range of skins and also helps with longevity of the sim.
Not to mention the F18E/F in AF is not even skinned! The thing I miss the most in AF at the moment is Zaggy's Hornet skins flying my virtual sky.
Hopefully LP gets over themselves and gives skinning back to the community.

I Second That! Take for example GTR which is an awesome game with some great skins, but they doesn't stop you adding in your own cars to race if you want, for example I am using the awesome Jack Daniels Saleen S7R of Jackal Motorsport.
Takes nothing away from the base game, just enables people to customise it a little for personal preference. They manage to use DDS skins too, with excellant results.
Also the A4 or Aermacchi aren't even skinned at all either!
