I saw Fighter Pilot at the National Air and Space Museum IMAX in Washington DC and it was awesome. Some great footage and a good story.

Not a bad flick, but some of the footage was CGI, so in turn the movie to mee was not worth the money spent. On top of that , I was on Nellis AFB to visit the Thunderbirds, and I saw a bunck of raptors on the ground, was going to take a pic but being that photos of that aircraft as well as anything else on the base is off limits for photography, but I was able to take a few of the thunderbirds, will post them later tomorrow, as we speak I'am in the Las Vegas Airport on the free wireless writning this post. But will post the photos tomorrow!!!

Yea went and saw it on IMAX, but as Cinch said most of the A-A was CGI so bit of a rip. Check out the 'Making Of' clip on the site Redstormer mentioned and you will see they pretty much wanted to 'Hollywood' it up a bit. Also a few mistakes as far as I could tell.
i.e. They narrate that they are loading up with live A-G ordinance for an ex, while they are loading up dumb bombs with blue stripe around the nose - which in the RNZAF means dummy ordinance....but they DO have a mega hot armourer chickie working on the ordinance inside the hangar at night shot!!
Also the 'live' ordinance is just explosives set on the ground and detonated as the F-15's fly over 'bombing' the convoy...this is real obvious as in the 'Making Of' a dude is standing right there filming as they so called 'drop' live bombs - like that would ever happen!!
All in all not bad ..I suppose, the ballistic take-off is cool.
Just bought AMERICAN FIGHTER PILOT from Amazon so will see what that is like - hopefully better.
p.s. ooh almost forgot - It also has some of the gayest A/C marshalling I have ever seen - if some dude marshalled like that on our Sqn's flightline he would get his numbnuts ass kicked. Sorry if it is just a U.S thing but jeeze!

At Red Flag they do drop live ordie from al the aircraft, I have seen several of the #1 Live Firepower show out in vegas, as well as during Red Flag! So they do drop real ordie from the aircraft during red flag. But not in the Imax movie!!!

I have no doubt they do drop live ordinance Cinch, I have also personally watched 14 & 75 Sqn's drop live ordinance at Waiouru and out at the Ohakea range.
Just think they are trying to fool people when they say they are loading up live ordinance while loading dummy ordinance, and pretend to do live bombing runs. Might as well just show more low flybys - cause that's all that is happening from the viewers POV IMHO- (obviously pilots are actually aiming and releasing for practice)
So far the best A/A footage ever filmed was topgun. It actually works out cheaper using a live aircraft than a computer if you want the right effect. Even if some of the actors throw up lol. BTW nothing sounds better than a 2000lb bomb, especially dropped from a Hornet in Waiouru.

Vampire14,
I also thought the PC was over doing it on the taxi out as well, but I cant say much, I was the same fool moving Aircraft on CV-60 & CVN-69 when I was in, we would get into our work, from what people told me and the Officers would say that I was like the James Brown of the Flight Deck when I was on deck, and they all loved it. Esp the Airboss of both ships, It was like a moral thing if they saw me having fun and getting into my work then they new I was doing my job right. But it was funny to see it on the movie.

Yea I have to admit we did the whole carrier take-off thing every now and then for a laugh - on the tarmac :thumb:
But mostly we were happy but professional when on the flight line - and that seems to be what out aircrew appreciated.
...and none of that saluting stuff in N.Z. - I know you guys salute heaps there, but not down here. - no headress no salute, and no headress on the flightline full stop...edit-accept for caps of course, but that's not 'headress'
