AGM-88 HARM, I really like the way it flies off the rail and starts to climb.
Even nicer at dusk or dawn. CBU's come as a good second though.

I seem to have a thing for the AGM-152 and LGB's... but the AIM-54C is what I really want to get my hands on! Tomcats rule!

Is Napalm still a valid weaponssystem? I just know those aerosol bombs http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/dumb/index.html

A stone throw. Stealthy, pocket sized, it doesn't rise any alarm, and with aim enough, is deadly when the target is in range. :bounce:

Napalm sucks. Give me some CBU-72's and I'll ruin someones day in a big way. FAE kicks butt! But I still want my AIM-54C. Anytime Baby!

MOAB is bigger but is no longer in service.

I don't think it lasted a year, it holds the record for shortest service for any weapon. Someone told me they've already put one in a museum and the others are mothballed.

I rest my case.
(Laughs waiting for the heated debate to start!)

Hehe, I'm sure you'll get agreement from Hacker at least :wink2: . Seriously though, it's combat record speaks for itself, and that is the only TRUE record of a systems performance, so I think you have a valid point.

Well, if ya ask me, it depends on what the job is,,let me explain,,

hitting a target that thinks it can't be hit - LGB, JDAM.

hitting multiple armoured moving targets - Mavs

hitting a cluster of targets and making a big boom - NAPALM/CBUs

SAM site - HARM is a life saver.

Aircraft are the same way,,, but,, for the best all around capability,,
,, Strike Eagle all the way.

Personally, I like the CBU-97. When I think about how it was designed, I picture a room full of pocket-protector engineers sitting around smoking a generous amount of cannabis and dreaming of a wacky cluster munition.

Engineer 1: "Duuuuuuuuuuude.....we should have parachutes on 'em...."

Engineer 2: "Oooohhhhh, yeah maaaan. Then....THEN....we should have rockets that fire and SPIN those things up!"

Engineer 3, passing the bong: "YEAH! YEAH! And then....and then...<takes a big drag>.....and THEN when that thing is spinning we can have these little hockey pucks fly out!"

Engineer 1: "Oooooh yeaaaaaaah."

I believe I saw the CBU-97 on "Future Weapons" on Military Channel a couple of days ago. Wiped a VERY large area on the test range.
Isn't that the one where the submunitions actually find a target after being dispensed?

As for my fav. weapon system i would go for kamikazes, lots of them!
Imagine what was thinking the one who came out with that idea.

A B52 dropped a single CBU97 and anhliated an Iraqi convoy during the invasion of Iraq. The survivors all gave up after that.

Do you have a reference for that? All I heard dropped over there was CBU-103/WCMD.

CBU-105 is the same weapon system as the 97, apart from being wind corrected which enlergens the delivery envelope...

Hacker
06-15-2006, 06:44
The CBU-105 is GPS-aided for wind-corrected delivery, hence the name WCMD -- "Wind Corrected Munitions Dispenser"
