dont know if anyone is aware of this but when researching the F-15 throttle i found this... http://www.ultra-msi.com/products/special_controls/
have a read... there are joystyicks which operate on force - just like the falcon fcs... an idea poped into my head for all you f-16 pit builders who may be intrested take out the force sensor and put on and old FLCS stick grip! ( i doubt anyone would take apart a cougar - but if there is anyone DONT...instead of screwing it up, give it to me! LOL) .
Anyhow just a thaught.
Theres plenty of people who take apart Cougars. Frugals world has a whole section dedicated to modding the hotas.
Heres one of the Force mods. Im considering doing this to my spare Cougar when i get it repaired:

I think Briklayer's LVDT Cougar mod is the best (not the easiest though...)

looks quite good that way. How do the force sensors work? with no movement to mesure how do they mesure the force?
There should still be a bit of movement(1/4 of an inch), not much, they work off pressure from what I can see.

There's a very slight movement (a couple of mm like the real thing) which is amplified in the base by a fulcrum system. The LVDTs are very sensitive linear sensors. They can measure small moves with accuracy and repetivity.

I don't know if they still offer it but RealSimulators.com sold their FSSB (Force Sensor Stick Base) for a time. They came from Spain in two flavors for 3-400 Euros. I've had mine for over a year and hope to keep my Cougar alive until the FSSB packs it in. Considering the design criteria, I doubt I'll live long enough to see the FSSB fail. I have my doubts about the rest of the Cougar.
I consider this to be the ultimate Cougar mod. There is no, and I mean NO, spiking and the consistency of output to control pressure is absolutely perfect. I've seen no drift from the installed RAW values at center or the limits of either axis. The precise control is further enhanced by the removal of all mechanical linkages. There would be no movement of the stick if I were able to completely secure the stick to the FSSB base. As it is there's about 1/8" play in both axes which I rather like.
I don't know if it is still available but Frugal had some info on the Cougar mod forum at one time. It's an absolutely drop in mod where all of the others required shipping to some end of the earth. The price was even somewhat competitive.

The RealSimulator FSSB is THE BEST modification you can make to your Cougar. I got the R1 a few months ago and couldn't think of going back. I may order a second for my spare Cougar (actually, it's not a spare - my son uses it).
There is zero play on the stick. Letting go puts your dead center and rock solid in the joysticks crosshairs. A little fiddling was required for some sensitivity adjustment but it's really excellent now.
It is still available from RS. Also, RS is starting to work closely with the Pit Building community. It should be very exciting to see the results.
