Its amazing how small this world can really be. I hope I do not bore any of you here with this story, but since most of you are aviation fanatics like myself, you might apreciate it a little bit.

To start Some history on myself. Ever since I can remember as a little boy I loved aviation, mostly millitary. This was derived from my uncle who was a mechanic in the airforce and would tell me stories and show me pictures when ever he could.

Due to un-mentionable reasons I was unable to persue a carreer in aviation and found my calling as a firefighter paramedic. I am 32 now and have been on the job 12 years with no regrets. A few weeks ago I made an EMS run on an older gentleman that was having medical problems. As my crew and myself walked into the room where are patient was located I was taken away by pictures of the USAF thunderbirds, flight helmets decorated the walls, and models of the SR-71 and the T-38 where all over the place. I have always valued my patients privacy and did not pry into the meaning of all of the aviation material in his office. Our contact with him was brief due to him not wanting to go by ambulance to the ER. As we turned and left I saw a picture that was signed by the USAF thunderbirds and it wa addressed to "mom"

The Picture on the patients wall had me thinking for the rest of my shift. I got home the next morning and was taken away but what was hanging in my office. The picture that I saw the day before is the same picture that was signed for me back in the early 80's by the Thunderbird team that year. Mine was given to me by my uncle who was able to get it for me through connections that he had at the time. That picture that was signed to me that year had been my pride and joy growing up.

The ironic twist to all of this.. The patient that I had treated just 12 hours ago was the Number 4 pilot for the team that year. His autograph, as well as the rest of the teams, has been on my wall for over 20 years.

sure is a small world.
