OK, well...Yep it is definitely Falcon in all of its glory, its the first time I have been able to play it trouble free. But, unless you are a very hard core Falcon fan it just feels very very dated to me. Now, I truley know why there is a need for Fighter Ops.

I think the most disappointing thing so far is that there are already bugs showing up that have been well known for years. Mainly thinking about the Aeyes 1600 pit bug, where if you run FSAA you can only click a portion of the cockpit. A showstopper that has been well known for a hell of a long time.
Fortunately this can be fixed by installing Dr Stops pits, which some people say they have done successfully with AF, but you'd expect stuff like this to be fixed. Reading some of the reports also it seems CTD's are still about the same frequency as you'd expect with a good install of the old falcon with mods.

Yeah, just by looking at the screenies at Lead Persuit I could tell that it was going to be outdated..like a MOFO
I mean the terrain is still the same as the original Falcon 4.0 The duplicated terrain tiles gets me every time.. It's Falcon 4.0 with a new box. I won't be buying it ever.. I still have the original 4.0 collecting dust in my study.. Can't wait for Fighter ops.. I will own it as soon as it's available. Falcon is just not my cup of tea. I guess I have been spoiled by Lomac...
How about the ATC features and AWACs control? Its possible graphics and stuff may well be upgraded later. Its good to see that they finally released it though.

I agree on this one... disappointing! They claim of a "high fidelity" FM.... seems the same as the Falcon I'm playing now (SP 4.2). Is it me, or are the FPS screwed up! :evils: Anyway, I only paid $20 for the thing. Not too bad considering.....

Not sure what you mean...
In Falcon, yes, there's a fly by view in it. As for FO, I would think there's going to be a 3rd person "fly by" of sorts.

I understand what most of you are saying, however we have played AF on our server for the past two days steadily with large packages and we are very impressed with the stability. We flew a total of 18 flights with up to 12 pilots in very close formation without latency problems, without a single CTD, connection problem, or any other frustrating muliplayer problems that habitually afflict Falcon.
For the simple enjoyment of being able to connect and fly a VERY STABLE online version of Falcon without constant CTD's and connection problems AF is the way to go. FF3 is too unstable and SP4 has really out dated graphics (just my opinion) Yes, there are bugs, but in the 8 years F4 has been out when has there not been bugs in any install??? I have never seen a bug free version of Falcon....have you????
What AF offers is a very stable multiplayer platform. Believe me, I was very critical of AF, but after playing it on line I have to say I am impressed with the multiplay.
Please do not flame me, I am simply offering an opion on my experience with AF.

Good post Suds, I do believe MP is one area that a lot of work went into. I'm certainly not against AF, I'll be buying it, just a little disapointed that bugs that the guys making the sim have known about for years, and others in the community have fixed were ignored. It's also a huge shame that when community members offered their work for free to the AF guys they seem to have been ignored and as a result the product is inferior in most aspects to what is available or was in development by community groups.

No reason to flame you or anyone bud.......everyone is entitled to their opinion. I am happy to see and agree with you that a STABLE platform is paramount. Call me an ass if you will but I was so fustrated with the Original Falcon that I threw the CD away but hey I pre-ordered this time and I am no veteran :red: We have somethin to keep ourselves BZ with till OPS is out with my estimate of May 2006....... :thumb:

I agree totally Suds, thats why I'm getting AF. All those bugs will probably get ironed out in future patches and now that the legend has been unleashed yet again maybe the flight sim community will get a new batch of hardcore pilots to join the ranks. A couple of questions from me, online campaign, have you guys tried that out and does it work. 2nd question, inflight refuelling, is this supported in MP and was it successful?

2 questions I want to know also.
I certainly agree with you, however my understanding is the developers wanted to start with a stable platform...more or less a bench mark to begin with. Then make changes to improve areas one at a time. If you develop your product in this manner it makes it much easier to sort out bugs. I am not a software developer but I am a certified PM and my 20+ years experience in project management reminds me that this is the right approach.
Not accepting help from the community, well I'm sure I'll be flamed for this but in my very short time being involved in the community (5 months) I believe again this was the right approach. There are too many opinionated personallities and groups in the community to ever please everyone or implement all the philosophies that exists. Each group believes there approach is the best, and as I stated earlier, have you ever seen a bug free release of Falcon4? Never! Many of the people being critical are involved with developing other F4 products and before being critical they should ask themselves....how many bugs did we leave in our product? People must understand by now that Falcon 4 will never be bug free. The diverging self centered views of the various community groups are the primary reason (IMO) that the genre is almost dead. All of these people are trying to be "super stars" in the development world and none of them are in their own right. Their arogance and refusal to accept the views of others has killed this genre.
Look at the critisim you FO folks are getting and your product is not even out yet. So, I say well done Lead Pursuit!

We flew all of our flights except two in a campaign. The only big problem we experienced is we could not find the tanker even though we were given vectors to it....the refueling (although hard) did work online in a TE.
thanks Suds .. i was getting a bit worried as i just recieved my email telling me my game has been shipped.
i never really got into Falcon4 as the dance put me off and then you had to make sure your mates online had the same version so MP was difficult to organise. I am hopefull that now there is one common install we will see more servers up online for randoms to join.
Just another sim to help pass the time till FO is out!

I am still disapointed that Falcon 4 AF has not undergone improvements to my liking, but Suds is right. A very stable platform is required for bug hunting and testing purposes.
You are also spot on for the reasons of why the flight sim communtiy has all but abandoned the genre. I think it is the narrow minded people that woun't accept new ideas, or different approaches to a problem, that get things jammed up. I'm sure, in time, that the AF team will invite others into the group for enhancing a game that, quite frankly, refuses to die.
As fo FO bashing, all I can say about what I'm doing is that I am a perfectionist. Anyone can say what they wish about my work, but I am my own worst critic! I think, even when everything is right, there will be something that needs to be adjusted, or something needs to be re-done to make it work right. My regular job is like that. I'm not happy, unless everything is up and working like clock work. I frown on anything "half ass". From my drag boat, to my classic car collection, nothing is half ass.
I never start an issue or flame. To me, that's simply arguing at your own limitations. I know better than that. I say well done to the Lead Peruit guy for not letting the old girl die, and getting behind a project/genre that I think will get stronger over time.
Well said JHook! I continue to believe in FO and until then I'll have some fun on the various Falcon versions out there.
Cheers,
Suds

Absolutely correct grab. I've already purchased a copy.
BTW, if I can get an orange dino to move a little faster, there'll be an F-16 upgrade package for you soon.

i think much of the consumer response is understandable - they see eyecandy first and they judge the whole book by it's cover, and sometimes that is ALL they ever judge their sim on.
that said - an experienced falcon eye will spot the differences pretty quickly - the biggest being that you don't visit the desktop near as often and that for the most part it's smooth.
for the first time ever i've been able to consistenly participate in online campaign with other people without having issues, something that's never happened for me in falcon before no matter what mod was used.

Korea 2005: Tiger Spirit: Day 5: Early Evening: There is thunder, lightning, heavy rain. It is so heavy you can barely see the taxi ways. Tower instructed me to taxi to runway...barely able to find. Once I got off and above 20,000, it was OK. Returning from mission to land was quite a treat...couldn't see a thing even with my NVG...I crashed...instrument landing not my forte. The rain continued right through Day 7...although it was lighter...by Day 8, it was clear and sunny. Does this mean there is snow and ice somewhere in this sim? This was all quite a surprise and quite interesting! This sim has more than we all thought...or I thought! Has anyone else experienced similar weather conditions?
Hi guys.
I too have ordered my copy of Allied Forces, though may take a week still to get here (South Africa). Anyway, it's one of the only options we've got really at the moment as far as flight-sims go. So I'm willing to overlook one or two problems to give it a try as well as to support the genre.
So yeah, one sim might be more realistic than the other, and one more focused on x than y, but on the bright side any new release has potential to bring in more flyers and hopefully the genre will grow once again.
So, I'm awaiting arival of AF, I'm off to go buy LOMAC, and will be keeping an eye on Fighter Ops which will hopefully usher in a new level of fun, graphical beauty, scope and a new generation of fighter pilots!

Europeans can also order the software from SimWare, it is pretty fast (most of people receive the box two or three days after having ordering it, like me  ).
My feelings about Falcon4 Allied Force are mixed. It is a VERY stable product  , and the online part of the sim is very pleasant. You can fly really close to your wingmen, even if it is not totally perfect yet, and you can fly with many people without too much worrying.
Graphically speaking, the game does not impress much, but, in my opinion, it is not the most important part of a simulation.
There are no GPS weapons, and no IFF, but I can easily accept it, even if I would have liked to get them. I understand that LP prefered not to implement certain things in order to keep the software as stable as possible. Everything else we are used to about the avionics works. Some bugs remain (wrong cycling with OSB, TFR only available if FLIR is on, etc. ...) , nevertheless I think they will be removed in the future patches to be released :wink2: .
The main disappointment, to me, lies in the flight models. If you already know the HFFMs, they are not very impressive... This is not so much a problem for mud movers, but, as I belong to a squadron dedicated to air-combat, I am really disappointed. I tried some dogfights in Falcon4AF, it is much less thrill than with HFFMs. I really miss them. And the CEO of Lead-Pursuit insisted on the point that they would not add any major improvement to Allied Force...
So, I still wait for Fighter Ops to get the perfect simulation of my dreams  .
Well, Graphsim send me a new copy with an other carrier this time last friday the 22th.
Received it today the 26th. So it's possible.
