View Full Version : Fly F18 and land on US Carrier?
Is there some way to fly an F18 and land it on and American Carrier.
Some one made a video of F-18's landing on a carrier after flying in formation.
Is there anyway to fly any of the flyable a/c and land them on an American carrier i.e. Su-33 or even modified F-15?
Thanks,

This prompted me to try to fly the f-18 to the CVN-70 like I used to do in 1.02...and guess what...it's not working like it used to.
I can go into meinit.xml and change the f-18c to 'humancockpit=yes', and I'm in an f-18 with a SU pit after making a new mission with a 'player' in an f-18, but the arrestor hook doesn't work and the carrier doesn't have a solid deck.
Too bad, that was fun to do in the last version, too. I'll see if there's any fixes for those issues.
Hopefully someone will make some new mods and you won't have to go through all that trouble. The 1.02 mods allow you to fly F/A-18 and F-16 as well as alot of other flyables. The Su33 can land on both carriers no problems online as well, to takeoff again just press U to set you up on the catapult and open the throttle with full flaps. Flyable F/A-18 should have an Su33 pit.

Ya, I hope a mod tweaks this too...it was a fun way to grab nice screenies in 1.02.
Don't hope for many helpful people over at the lockon.ru forum tho...mostly just pitiful vultures. I'll let you know if anyone helpful speaks up.
At least you can have fun landing the 25T on the kuz and enjoy the cg modeling. So far I've managed to get 2 flat tyres trying that trick.
you've noticed that too Bigfoot....seems all the trolls from the ubi forums have finally migrated.
SUBS17 - only 2 flat tyres???? your not trying hard enough!

Ya, we love trolls (for dinner...slowly roasted on a spit :evils: ).
It's definitely in the underlying model that the F-18 uses. I've been trying to compare config data between the su-33 and the f-18 to try to get the f-18 to use the su-33 model.
I can land an su-33 on the CVN-70, so that's as far as I've gotten so far...can't find any nice little switches like 'world ID=4' to make it think it's using the su-33 model...those kinds of things just ain't workin'.
Not that it matters, I'm just killin' time until I can fire up Falcon Allied Force...hehe...
How did you get the Su-33 to land on the CVN-70? Aside from this, I don't have any extras with Home XP so I can't edit meinit.xml.
Thanks,

It's the same thing as landing on the Kuz. You only have to make sure that the USA are your allies if you don't want to constantly get fired on while you're landing. Then you just add a landing waypoint on the CVN in the mission editor and that's it.

Also, if you want to play around with the meinit.xml file, just make a copy of it someplace else as a backup and open the file with Notepad. Then you just hit ctrl+F to find the term 'humancockpit', and keep finding until you hit the line with f-18c in it, or whatever plane you want to look at.
Should be no problem because of xp home.
Thanks kydius and Bigfoot.
I"m going to play around with it now.
I landed the SU-33 on the CVN and edited the meinit.xlm file with "yes" but I had no control. . . it just rotated down into the ocean. The F-18 turned yellow in the mission planer. Is there any other items to edit for it to fly correctly?
BTW there are some free flight courses at http://www.aopa.org/asf/online_courses/mission_possible/

No, just don't start on the carrier as it won't sit or land on it...this is only good for getting a short vid of a wobbly hornet coming in to land from an external shot...not good for anything else really. Sounds like ya got it, tho...just start the mission flying with a decent speed.
Hey guys, check out the screenshot thread, try landing the Su25T on the Kuz. All kinds of fun.:thumb:
