wow.. stunning. looks like real. freakin real. if FO will be like this and we manage to include a completely functional weapons/avionics system plus AI, plus campaign engine into this, it will be completely off the hook. it'll be unbelieavable.

The only problem with that is the extremely low FPS. You need a real decent machine to run detail that high. I think that shot is from XPlane 8.

Nice detailed landscape!!! Nice airplane

What 'll bring the future? Has anyone asked themselves how it 'll be in about 10 years?

I dribble only of the thought!

To answer some of the questions:

The pic is X-Plane 8.

X-Plane is not open source.

"Freeworld" is a virtual airline in the X-Plane world.

In my (long term) experience X-Plane seldom has problems with low FPS, you just have to be careful with objects, roads, "AI" planes and such. As far as terrain/texture detail and clouds I'm running my copy fine, always have.

And yes, you need to buy X-Plane:wink2: You could consider it an indirect way of supporting FO, since FO builds on X-Plane.

X-Plane is the best civilian sim, and has been for some years, if you value flight modelling fidelity over eye candy.

Nice shot! Seattle if I'm not mistaken?

I have been considering X-Plane for a while. Currently I use MSFS2004 for VFR and Elite for IFR practice (which I do a lot of).

I kind of like the idea of a sim that can do both but I have one question:

Is this screenie from the default package or is this some kind of scenery pack? Also does x-plane let you analyse your flight to check you haven't flown below miniums etc?

Thanks
RobP

X-Plane is the best. I want to download the "Space Combat" they also offer. Since Fighter Ops builds on X-Plane, does that mean their airplane models are from X-Plane? Is it possible to get those for X-Plane, even if I had to pay for them? It'd be nice to have an awesome F-16, and finally an A-10 to play with. :wink2:

No, while we are using the X-Plane engine, we are totally revamping and modernising just about all of it, as well as adapting it for use with a combat jet sim. There won't be any compatibility between our system and X-Plane.

Darn. Your models are so nice, and I already have a decent X-Plane F-16 pit....

Hey guys! That's a really nice screenshot, nice view of the scenery! By the way forcebomr, you may know this already, but there is a really nice F-16 available for free download at: www.xplanefreeware.net/~barry
Unfortunately, the xplanefreeware.net site is down right now because they are changing servers and they have to move all of their current information to a different location, which I would imagine could take a while, but as soon as it is up again, the above link will take you to a page of planes designed by Barry Leger, and they are all really cool. The F-16 comes in a bunch of different liveries, and there's a fictional Super Falcon there too. Also, somewhere at www.x-plane.org I believe there is an A-10 Wharthog available for free download. They recently lost all of their download data, but if you search the site using their site search option at the bottom of the main page, you might be able to find it in the registry section of the site. I know they used to have it, so it might still be there. It might be for ver. 7, but I think it works fine in ver. 8. Well, anyway, Fighter Ops looks like a really really cool sim. The detail in the airplane models looks really cool. Does anyone know if it will be available for Mac? Thanks.

Matt

Consistent graphics, a rare thing in today's
computer gaming world :).

FsX graphics style are so varying all over the place
in color schemes, accuracy, detail, that for me at least
the overall quality SUCKS. (same reason I prefer
OF over RV ^^)

However, that x-plane shot looks very nice. I might have to buy
myself a copy soon :)

Yes, but be carefull the newest incarnation is Version 9 which is actually right out of beta phase an now RC2.
Screenshots can be found on x-plane.org (http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?showtopic=28966)

I for myself really like it and a haven't had too many probs with version 9 even when it was beta. Though, carrier ops in FSX are a bit better
