Yep, I'm looking forward to the next big Il-2 and PF patches.

Looking at those V2s has gotten me interested in throwing together a V2 scene for rendering. I have always wanted to do that but have never gotten around to it. That screenshot has gotten me motivated.

What do you think of the new FM for PF on the latest patch. I was quite impressed with it, I'm also amazed at the level of detail especially when you bail out on the ground. The pilot jumps out and runs a good distance and then dives to the ground. Very cool.:thumb:

Well the FM is still unrealistic  , you can read about it at UBI forum. And about the level of details... let me tell you something: after PF was released I was working on a skin for my virtual squadron (Eternal Irregulars) - the skin was for F4U Corsair, and first the templates that came with the game ware terrible, and when I was making my own I have found something like two dozens of errors in 3D model, some really serious.

There is also our backup plane skin to download : F4U1A-66481 (http://strony.aster.pl/eternalirregulars/download/F4U1A-66481.rar)
and yesterday I have done a F4U skin based on "60 years of Jolly Rogers" low-vis Tomcat paint job: F4U1D-Bones (http://strony.aster.pl/eternalirregulars/download/F4U1D-Bones.rar)

Its still more realistic than FS2004s FM, especially since the latest patch. As for errors in the 3d model, I have not noticed any so far. But I do think that some of the aircraft go into a spin a bit too early.

Some of those A/C are a tad too touchy on the controls for my liking.

As far as the Corsair goes, the thing is nearly impossible for me to land on the carrier without destroying it.

Same was the story for the real ones, the corsair is the most difficult WWII aircraft to fly.

After the 4.00/4.02 patch it’s a bit easier to land Corsair on carrier – if you master controlling the huge torque that is. Finely after this patch you can touch down on three points and these are not main gear and propeller :wink2:

The way I’m landing is very similar to system used during WW2 invented by British and it’s still used today (except ACL approach) but the numbers are different, because the Flight Model is different from the real F4U.

You start going parallel course to the carrier on its starboard side at 600ft altitude and 120kts drop down gear, hook and flaps to take-off position and drop speed to 100kts. When you pass the vessel make 30 degrees left 180* turn maintaining speed and altitude, after leveling with carrier on the port side flaps on landing position and drop your altitude to 460ft and watch the carrier, when you will miss its bow wait few seconds and perform left 40* 180* turn dropping altitude slightly and dropping airspeed to 90kts when you end your turn you should have few seconds to adjust your heading and altitude, try to have your nose at such position, so you could still see the edge of deck (forward, not aft edge) and pull it slightly up with dropping rpm at the end of final approach so you won’t bounce up and land on your nose.

Few advice
– Do not change your seat position to higher it will make it only harder.
- Land with your canopy and radiator open that will slow you a bit.
- In case of bolter don’t throw throttle at max to hard, it’s better to go slowly with it or at that speed you will flip the aircraft.
- Before landing you can trim your aircraft about 15clicks to the right (rudder) that should help a bit.

About all those speeds and altitudes you have 10% of error margin but remember not slow down below 86kts on final approach, the stall speed is something around 76kts but bellow 86 you can’t control it and it will be VERY sensitive to throttle.

Good Luck! :thumb:

THe hardest carrier landings and aerial refuellings ive had were during the days of F/A-18 Hornet from Janes...Miss em...

Do you know how to enable perfect water with the GeForce 6600 GT? I just can't get it to work.. is it possible at all? (because I think the card has Shader 3.0)

Imho, Janes F/A-18 was just as good as Falcon, and brought me many more hours of fun than Falcon did

You have to hack one of the config files. You can find a guide to it on Ubi's PF forum.

yeah, I got that right, but it keeps resetting. Anyway, some guy at Ubi told me to use the OpenGL instead of DirectX, but I haven't gotten around to change it yet. So little time on my hands anyway nowadays

Bumping this up...

You must use OGL for the shader model 3 to work... seems DirectX doesnt work for it. It doesnt take much to change it over... it's in the video options in the UI.
