Hey guys,
Well, I finally completed phase 1.. And I must say I am damn proud to present these pics.. It has been a long 15 months in production! And starting next week I can finally fly this baby!!! But I first must take this time to give special thanks to some people who have helped, pressured or inspired me to complete this project.
Special thanks to:
Marv Debeque (Cougar/SSC design as well as other helpful tips!) YOU ROCK!
Dave Scott (Cougar/throttle arm modification and ejection arming lever)
Gwen De Lucero (ACES II and cockpit decals, and 157th FOX HEAD)
Jim Feathers (assorted cockpit stencils)
Mike Williams (Painting tips, as well as other incentives)
Richard Sherkin (technical tips and inspirations)
Joseph Fagner (helpful painting tips and inspirations)
Justin "HACK" Nordby (for being a big FAG and making fun of me on VP) :D
Special thanks to Delphin "Haole" Gantt (for helping to make this a 157th Viper...SCANG RULES!!)
Lastly, all the other members of www.viperpit.org for their inspirations and support to one heck of hobby!!!
Hope you all enjoy!!

I'm speechless! How much did all of that cost, and where did you buy all of the panels, and the aces II seat? Great Work!!!

Please don't even ask how much this entire project has cost to date.. I am thinking it falls somewhere on the irrational side. :)
To build that cockpit for wood and materials about 1200 bucks. The landing gear and AUX COMM panel are from a F-16 sim. I purchased those to give me a good idea on how they should look as I am building my own panels. That ACES II is 100% fabricated out of wood, except for the restraints, cushions, and parachute container which are from the real deal.
Thanks for the compliments.

Guys,
Thanks for the compliments..
33-croc,
Well for Falcon right now, I am using a 21"LCD.. That is until FO brings us multi-displays! :D
Marvin
Hi Marvin,
really awesome, your pit!!!
Can you tell me where you got the black chutebox from, as this is exactly what I need to perfect my ACES seat (I do "only" have the greenish one so far, but that doesn't really match the black cushions etc that I am using).
Btw, nice to see the survival kit straps employed in your pit! ;)
Cheers,
Marc

Marc,
Damn!! See this is what I hate.. When I forget to mention people! Now that I see your name I realized I never thanked you for GIVING me those survival bag straps on my ACES II! Boy don't I feel like an ass!!!
I got the parachute container from Chad at Aviationartifacts. But just to let you know, as Chad told me. You can paint the entire parachute box any color you like. When I received mine, although the metal was black the canvas stuff was an ugly sun faded color. So I painted the whole thing black to match with the rest of the new look that I went for. So you can always just paint your grey box all black.
Once again Marc, sorry for forgetting about you.

Klunk,
Yes those are Realsimulator ICP and MFDs, and yes they do not have backlighting. I have no idea why they did not go the extra bit and do that.. However, it never made much difference to me, as I do not plan on backlighting my panels anyway.
Marvin
No please....dont make this mistake!!
you have done so beatifoul work.....dont miss to have a perfect cockpit.....adding few led on panels means to spend at maximun 15% more of the time you need to built one panel.....
Think about the feeling fliing your pit during the night!!

Klunk,
I totally understand.. And yes that is a very good point.. But honestly from talking to pilots, and seeing pics for myself, flood lights not only look nicer, but also usually drown out the backlighting on the panels to begin with. So it is not a matter of not putting in the effort.. I just prefer to use the flood lighting. Just my tastes, that's all.
Jody
Sure!! you had to follow yor taste....
I thinked you was warried about the job to backlight the panel....but now i have understood that you have other reason!! very good reasons, simply beacause are yours!!! :wink2:
I dont know if my english is so good to be sure that i exactly explain what i mean....if tomorrow you will say us, that you want to put a microoven near the FLCS, the only thing we can say...."if you like" or " "the coffee machine?" :bounce:
GOOD JOB MARVIN!!!

Looks amazing Marvin
1 thing I saw wrong was the "REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT" box thingy you had below the HUD. The real jet has a cover that go over the HUD and covers that as well. But it does look very nice, I bet that was a long 15 months but well worth it.

Cali, that's not completely right.. check out this picture:

Maybe that's a older pic, I work on F-16's and A-10's at Eielson AFB Alaska and ours are cloth. I guess that base uses a box, I like the cloth better then the box.

Cali,
Good observation.. But like Mihi displayed, that is the very pick where I got the idea to build a box. The main reason I chose to build the box was protect the switches on the ICP from when other people climb in the pit. I would suspect this is the whole purpose of it in the real jet as well.. The reason why I never did anything for the HUD is simple.. I threw the HUD in the closet where it will most likely never be used again. :D I only made the HUD for the photo. I have a 21" LCD screen sitting where the HUD is right now. I thought about making a big cloth cover for the LCD as well. :D
Thanks for the compliments

I say keep the HUD, just position the monitor to feed the HUD info in it :D

Hello people and greetings from Greece!!
I have to say, this is an amazing effort...being on the eve of constructing my own pit,I would greatly appreciate any links for rookies, to get me started (plans, panels, sticks, mfd etc.) I know my first effort won't be like this one but a man has to start somewhere...
thx
