Hi there Haole,

Just a quick question regarding the effect of flares and chaff on a pilot:

If you are flying at night, do you use night vision goggles, or do you rely on the MFD's to give you visual data?

If you do use NVG's, does the effect of a flare or missile launch have a large effect on your night vision? If so, what are some of the (unclassified) tactics you use to avoid ruining your vision?

With chaff, I know it is there to distract an inbound missile, but what, if any, effect does it have on the Viper's radar? Do you see a false target? Do you break lock with the enemy and lock on to the chaff cloud for a second or two?

All that I can say in reference to these questions is that the flares, etc are VERY bright and you do not want to be looking in the direction of flares, missiles, etc when dispensed/fired. Thats about all I can say, sorry!
