What is the correct term, and when should you use them?

The terms are fairly logical. Easy way to remember them is to take them literally. An actual 'mad dog' will lash out at whatever unfortunate object it finds first. And when a Pitbull grabs hold of your leg, you're not gonna get it off. Its locked on. :smile:

Its just these Lock-on pilots, they 'think Russian' and translate it wrong. :wink2:

Yep that's correct, mad dog is a slammer that has been launched without guidance, it's going to go after the first thing it sees. Pitbull is a missile that has now gone active, ie it has the target in range of it's internal radar, and has now switched to it's own active tracking, it does not require guidance from the launching aircraft any longer.
