Hi Haole! How are you?
If a flight is about to start a mission and is already on the ramp or taxi-way, what do they do if one of the jets has some sort of system error?
Does someone run out and see if they can fix it right there (depending on what the problem seems to be), or is the mission scrapped completely until it can be fixed? Or will the rest of the flight proceed without the aircraft with the problem?
Thanks!

According to Viper in the Storm from what I understood, the pilot will try to get an standby aircraft as quick as possible. Flight proceeds normal (depending on circumstances ofcourse) and does not wait for him. If he's back before T/O time he'll fly along, if he's too late he'll stay on the ground.

Juggernaut We will try to get down to EOR to fix the problem if we deem it possible. Something like radar, RWR, Hydraulics, Fuel, Radios, we will give a good crack at, something like unsafe landing gear, anti-skid, dragging brakes, NWS, its pretty much a no-go, step to spare jet. Hope that helps, Grab

Thank you for the information.
Pardon my ignorance...but what is EOR?

End Of Runway?
End Of Runway?Ding ding, a cookie for the Aussie :). It is End of Runway. The aircraft obviously starts in its assigned parking spot. Once started several system checks are performed and any malfunctions are fixed in chalks if possible. After the jet is deemed shit hot by the Crew Chief and pilot it taxi's to a final overall EOR check to ensure all of the flipper doors and such are closed, pins pulled, no obvious leaks. Once this is complete the jet goes and kills stuffs hehe. Grab
Alot of preflight faults are caught in chalks, howver Grab is right, some things aren't found until down to EOR although those are mostly weapons problems (loose missile fins, loose bits and pieces). They really try their derndest to get everything fixed without having to step to a spare though...it saves on the paperwork.
Hey Grab, I'm here at Cannon now...the 523rd you say...?
Is Bud still out there crewing the Thunderchickens?

As stated above...we will call for a "redball" which means help me ASAP in the chocks as the first step. If they cant fix it there and a spare is available we will go to the spare. We will either meet up with the flight in the EOR or in the area if possible. If not we will just go out and fly a sortie on our own (instrument sortie, etc) or just cancel if we do not have enough time to meet our take off and land times.
Thanks for the question!
