Right engine is out.
kinda hard to tell if there is any heat blur off the right engine or not ..... i think it is though.
however, they didnt have any trailing edge flaps out for the landing which obviously had a huge effect on the approach speed, which in turn explains the last photo. (nearly running off the end of the runway!)
As for above, Im calling it a Flap Malfunction...
More RAAF Stuff - been getting back into photography of late, so these are a little rough still (new camera and gear, etc)...

Zaggy, one more photo of that Dodo and I'm taking first plane to Hongkong, and from there to Sydney, next I take taxi cab and I WILL find you ! :wink2:
It's a sad thing to look at Diomndbacks markings on these oversized Hornets... they could fly ASF-14 now
I loved Tomact when I was a kid, I still look at this a/c with fondness... That's bad that it's being retired... But F/A-18E(!) is a Sexy Machine :thumb:
Yeah, the Super-D's, Advanced Tomcats, ASF-14, whatever you wanted to call them, would have been killer... Gut the airframes, and throw in a bunch of 21st century sysems, Thrust vectoring engines, etc... Alas, the existing Airframes are getting very tired... From what Im told, most are at around 90% of their maximum microfails, so you'd need to start building new airframes, or do serious structural overhauls...
My personal approach, would be to Navalise the F-23, as a full replacement for F-14D... But we all know that wont happen!

I love ur Sig.......care to pass it over :red:
Now thats a pretty interesting looking design, but it doesnt look like a fighter-design... Looks more like a sucessor to A-12! The intakes mounted on the upper surfaces would SCREW in the airflow into the inlets, causing compressor stalls and engine failures at high alpha (which is a requirement for the modern fighter)... But yeah, as a dedicated, LO, strike a/c, that one has potential!
No, Im afraid USN is stuck with the SuperBug for a while as its fighter cover....
As for 'Stealth', ive seen the previews for that... Something like the a/c in that is what USN needs to keep itself a step ahead... As is, FA-18E/F vs Su30MKK/J-11, not going to be easy to call a winner there! FA-18E/F has better LO features and better BVR Capability, but if it comes to the Merge, the Sukhoi is going to eat the SuperBug up (assuming pilot parity). Hell the Sukhoi would eat up a -14D in a knife fight too, but the -14D has the option of plugging the big engines in and running like ****; an option the SuperBug guys dont seem to have... I know ppl are going to argue with that assessment, but thats just the way i see it ATM... Im all for someone providing an argument against tho!
Thanks for the Pics of the Dambusters birds to bad you didnt see the one all dressed up she is a looker

Hard luck... what was it about $2000 for about 1/2 and hour in the air?
Those Misawa F-16's must have been really new because they didn't wear the MJ tailcode long after getting them. They switched to the more fashonable WW tailcode very soon after getting them.
Those a/c were replaced with Blk52's and the WW codes (13th and 14th FS 35WG/OG all stayed the same, just the tail code changed) were applied when the Wings primary role became SEAD. I THINK those a/c went to the ANG...
I should have paid more attention. Correct you are, I was thinking Block 52 though....
Buckshot
08-04-2005, 17:42
Actually Misawa fly block 50's. We have one of their pilots as an advisor to the fighterops team.
You sure Buck, because I can almost swear they were the F-110-GE-229 engined birds?
Buckshot
08-05-2005, 04:22
You are correct that they are GE's, which makes them a block 50. -52's are PW, which is what Haole flies.
Buck,

Here's some pics of the Super Hornet from VFA-122 based in Lemoore I think , correct me If I' wrong. I worked Flight Ops again this year.....now I know we are all Jet Heads but I added the P-38 just for the simple fact there are only two that are flying and we were lucky to get one at our show......

Super bug I could do without.... I'm a Tomcat guy. The P-38 in the other hand is a pretty sweet ride though. I'm fly P-38's a lot when I play Il-2/AEP/PF. It is a very good plane if you know how to handle it in game. I think most of us here appreciate all types of aircraft... we just like jets a little more. ;0)
Here's some more pics. The one with all the sand illustrates what it's like to "Do the ditch" (Suez Canal). The F-4E is from Holloman AFB back home circa 1995.The Su-24MR was an aircraft that jumped the Kitty Hawk right after she pulled out from a port call in Otaru Japan. There were two Su-27's escorting. The first jet we got off the deck was a EA-6B Prowler. I'm looking for a pic of that particular aircraft, with the name "Flanker Spanker" on the side. If anyone has one please post it, it would be most appreciated.

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a63/phantomwsl11/web_040618-N-8497H-031.jpg
Nope, its a fictional super jet from the (probably forgettable) movie Stealth. On the upside it does feature Jessica Biel...
The incident with the Su-24 happened Oct 17, 2001 off the western coast of Japan. We had just finished a port call in Otaru and were prepairing to head to Korean waters to participate in Cobra Gold. I remember hearing the alert called away so I went to the roof and hopped on the alert 30. The alerts were then stood down... which was good because the went down for a bad PTA. We shut the jet down and started to set another alert jet and they called away the alerts again. This time we didn't even get the jet started before the alerts were stood down. The jet that was selected for the second alert was down for a crushed flap retract cable bracket which someone had missed the night before... not sure how that happened as that is not a common failure. So, here we are on our third alert jet of the morning checking everything over and the alerts are called away again... I thought this was getting a little re-goddamn-diculous. We fire up the jet and wait for the aircrew to arrive. The jet that was our alert jet was parked in the six-pack (middle of the flight deck on the safe side of the foul-line for the landing area) and I had a clear view of the fantail. After waiting forever and a day... probably 15 minutes I was bored and was just looking around. As I looked aft to the fantail I noticed an aircraft approaching. My first thought was "Man, that S-3 sure does have a smoky exhaust" then it dawned on me that S-3's haven't had white radomes since the mid-ninties. As it went over I noted the big red stars and pretty much every rivet on the belly. I thought "If they were serious, I'd be dead now... lovely!". The first jet off the deck was the afore mentioned EA-6B. The next jet was an F/A-18C followed by an S-3B tanker (because the Hornet can't fly without its fuel tank). That was the first time I saw an intercept happen from takeoff to contact. The F/A-18 shot off the cat and immediatly climbed to a position off an Su-27's wing... about 15 seconds after launch. The Russians stuck around for a few more passes and left for home. The next couple of day's our battlegroup was shadowed by some Il-38's. This was a highly unusual event in that Russia had not bothered with anything of this sort since the wall came down. I hear our Admiral recieved some really cool photos of our ship from a Russian Admiral. Maybe they got a good one of me standing on deck giving them the bird!

[QUTOE]Nope, its a fictional super jet from the (probably forgettable) movie Stealth. On the upside it does feature Jessica Biel...[/QUOTE]
Yeah seeing Jessica in a flight suit is pretty hot, back when the Tomcat was the hottest ticket we usally had VF-101 Grim Reapers do our jet demo, we are prety lucky here this year we had the Thunderheads.......next year is Da Blues and the IMHO is the best jet demo team in the world of course I'm a little biased........Thunderheads fly ah how to I put it ....finesse where as the Blues fly with brute force. I will always love the Tomcat, I was bouncing aorund the site here and found a link to Patrick's aviation site....downloaded a couple of the Final Fling vids.......... awesoem....they will be burned to DVD.

That First pic is pretty cool... Shows the Bulged main gear doors of the late model Vipers (IIRC Blk40 introduced the heavier and bigger main gear), and the a/c is front is displaying what must be close to full deflection LEF's and Rudder... So which ones are of our mate Haole?

I could be wrong, but I believe Haole is flying jet 905 in the shot with the Herc, from memory 905 is "his jet" also.

I hope too. They are very, very nice.
Again, Diveplane, very cool!!! Whats the Story with http://putfile.com/pic.php?pic=8/22910340192.jpg&s=x1 ? Did the a/c ignite some sort of flammable that was split on the deck or what? Or did the cat-launch force some fuel to vent from the Port Fuel Dump Vent?
And yeah, looks like you were in Navy? I also see stuff like Aviano CG's that look about Bosnia-era, as well as Post 9/11?
As for splash screens tho, the stuff more likely is things like T-6A and T-38A/C; at least ATM... Thats said, i still have to say SHIT HOT pics! ;)
