Hey Haole,

I'm sure this was covered before on Frugs, but I was unable to find it?

What is the SOP for jettison stores if not used? I recal in Vipers in the Storm, Keith writing how during a live fire bomb practice they had to contact several ground stations to find a clear area in the desert to drop some live MK-82s they had on board as they did not want to land with live ordinance.

Is this still common practice? If so what are the limitations? Does the same apply for Mavs, and Harms, etc?

Thanks
Marvin

We landed with live HARM, GBUs, JDAMs, etc all the time. If we had HUNG ordinance we would work with AWACS, etc to find a clear piece of ground or sea, lake, etc to drop them off in.

Haole,

Thanks for the reply.. Hmmm, guess we should quit wasting our ordinance then if we don't use them. DOH!

MarvinThere are certain bases that at one time did not allow a pilot to land with lives loaded, Aviano comes to mind, those boys dropped more GBU's into plain ocean than we have put on Baghdad in the last 2 years. Also in the past with lightweight gear (under Block 40) the jet may not be allowed to land due to weight, not sure on that one though. Grab

Grab,

Those are good points you brought up.. It might all depend on what ordinance, SOP for airbases as well as block models.

Thanks
